Donald Trump has decided to focus his latest social media attacks on the state of California in regards to how they handle illegal immigration and border security. After Trump's most recent rant, critics took time to hit back.
Trump on California
When Donald Trump first announced that he would be running for president back in June 2015, he made headlines by referring to illegal immigrants from Mexico as "murderers" and "rapists." As expected, the reaction wasn't well-received from the majority of the mainstream media and Democrats, but played well with those on the far right.
Since being elected, Trump has continued that message, despite not being able to make much progress on the issue as far as legislation. The president's latest grudge is with California and Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown who has been vocal in his opposition to Trump's plans on Immigration Reform.
In a pair of tweets on April 19, Donald Trump didn't hold back. "Thank you San Diego County for defending the rule of law and supporting our lawsuit against California's illegal and unconstitutional 'Sanctuary' policies," Trump tweeted. "California's dangerous policies release violent criminals back into our communities, putting all Americans at risk,"he added.
Following up with a second tweet, Donald Trump called out Gov. Jerry Brown by name. "Governor Jerry Brown announced he will deploy 'up to 400 National Guard Troops' to do nothing," Trump posted. "The crime rate in California is high enough, and the Federal Government will not be paying for Governor Brown’s charade," he claimed, before noting "We need border security and action, not words!"
Twitter responds
After Donald Trump attacked Jerry Brown and the state of California, those who oppose the president wasted no time chiming in with their thoughts. "The crime rate within your administration is even higher," one tweet read.
"Russia interfered in our election but yet you do nothing," a Twitter user wrote.
"Crime rate statistics to support your bullsh*t-as-usual claim?" a tweet wondered with sarcasm. "Jerry Brown made it abundantly clear why he was sending National Guard troops to the border in his letter to Homeland Security Secretary Nielsen and Defense Secretary Mattis. You'd know that if you ever f*cking bothered to read," yet another tweet added.
"Funny because everyone in your cabinet are actually criminals," a social media user stated. "Just worry about the crime rate at the White House," a follow-up tweet read.
