Blizzard previously hinted that they have something in store for fans this week during Gamescom 2017. Fans expected the developer to showcase a brand new map and animated short. Obviously, the game studio was able to deliver on one of those expectations for now. Attendees of the video game trade fair were able to catch a glimpse of the new Junkertown map. Afterward, they also shared an amusing video clip apparently animated via the in-game engine. Everyone’s favorite criminal duo, Junkrat and Roadhog, take the lead to explain the new map’s plot.

The Queen of Junkertown in ‘Overwatch’

Fans should know that the Junkertown video clip is not the promised animated short. According to Game Rant, the official one is scheduled for Wednesday instead. The released video is considered by fans as a short gag that features the game’s resident junkers Roadhog and Junkrat. Some gamers suspect that the recently released animated clip during Gamescom 2017 could have revealed the stars of the upcoming animated short. In the past, Blizzard has used these Pixar-quality animations to explore each character’s background story and more.

Fans react to the showcased footage

The game studio was apparently unsure if fans would react positively or not to the new map revelation.

However, it seems that the general response is considerably good. In fact, most fans speculate that there might be more goodies in store in the following days. Rumors began to spread that a new hero might be revealed during the trade fair. Gamers presume that Blizzard might reveal the “Queen” of Junkertown as the next hero to join the roster.

New location added to the in-game map rotation

Based on the information gleaned from the trailer, the new map will feature an escort mission. Players will be tasked to deliver the booby-trapped cart to the Queen’s chambers. Easter eggs like Junkrat’s workshop and more are supposedly littered across the new map.

Based on “Overwatch” lore, the Junkertown map explores the some of the key events that affected Australia after the Omnic war.

According to Blizzard, the Outback was given to the Omnics when the war ended. However, the Australian Liberation Front declined to accept and started another battle, which eventually detonated an omnium fusion core. This resulted to the irradiation of the entire area and scattered survivors like Roadhog and Junkrat across the wasteland. Gamescom 2017 is still underway with more news from developer expected in the next few days.
