Recently, Kyrie Irving sent shockwaves after requesting a trade from the Cleveland Cavaliers. He does not want to play alongside LeBron James and hoped to find a new team. But in this new team, he sought to be the focal point.
According to Larry Brown Sports, the 25-year-old is likely to be traded to the Detroit Pistons. The latter, however, is not among the teams Kyrie Irving mentioned in his list. Of course, this does not mean it is impossible. Here is everything about it in a nutshell.
Irving to Pistons
Irving is basically tired of living in James’ shadow.
Following his request for a trade, he gave the Cavaliers front office a list of teams he would want to be traded to. These are San Antonio Spurs, Miami Heat, New York Knicks, and Minnesota Timberwolves. But of course, this will not keep the other 26 NBA teams from trying to acquire the All-Star point guard. He is a valuable superstar and, for sure, whichever new team he lands in, success will follow. The Pistons are among the teams trying to acquire Irving.
In a report from Detroit Free Press, the organization’s president Stan Van Gundy revealed their plans of getting hold of Kyrie Irving. “The Pistons have had some level of conversation with the Cavs,” he claimed. There are experts who say that this deal is unlikely to happen, considering the possible trade package Detroit can offer.
For instance, the biggest guy they can possibly offer to Cleveland is none other than Andre Drummond who proves to be a great player when it comes to rebound.
Teams going after Irving
As mentioned Pistons are not the only team going after Kyrie Irving. In a report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, there are around 20 NBA teams going after the Cleveland Cavaliers' guard.
The only catch, however, is that Cleveland does not seem to want to entertain these inquiries. They seem content with sitting and waiting. Besides, the team’s owner revealed recently that they are confident of Irving’s return. They believe he will join the team’s upcoming training camp. But unfortunately for them, Irving has not been returning their calls.
This could only mean that the point guard is not really interested any more.
While many people did not like Kyrie Irving’s move, NBA players like John Wall understood his motives. Wall explained that a young player like Irving will definitely want to make a name for himself. The former Chicago Bulls player Scottie Pippen, said that Irving’s decision is only right. He believes that the point guard is on the right superstar level to request a trade.
