God of War 4” is without a doubt one of the most highly anticipated titles of recent memory. The momentum gained greater magnitude following a new gameplay trailer from Sony Santa Monica’s presentation at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). Interestingly, this game has more to offer than what most fans believe.

The main protagonist, Kratos, is now a father who dons a beard (though he is still bald).

Interestingly, his beard hairs were rendered by the developers of “God of War 4” in real time. So, in one way or another, players will have to thank whoever the owner of that beautiful beard is. Kidding aside, the character moves forward with his journey in Norse mythology, a complete shift from the then Greek mythos.

Kratos’ son Atreus is actually quite useful

In the fourth installment, players will get to see both Kratos and his son working together in a dangerous endeavor. Apparently, the protagonist of the game is not capable of speaking the regional dialect. Fortunately for him, his son does.

The latter will then enable his father to understand the language, as he translates it to the old man. This is what makes the kid an indispensable character in the game.

God of War 4” director Cory Barlog iterated that this was their main purpose of developing Atreus. They want him to work alongside his father, thus contradicting what most players thought. They basically believed that the kid is nothing but a burden to Kratos. Well, it appears he is not. That is because in the entire game, he will be seen translating everything for his father. Whenever there is a writing on a wall or something, he is the one who will translate it immediately.

Players can control Atreus

Barlog went on to reveal that “God of War 4” players will be able to control the kid in the game.

He is basically there to also help his father in other circumstances aside from translating the language. Whenever progress is made, Atreus also tends to learn more abilities. Interestingly, this is not the only ally Kratos will be getting. Reports have said that a dwarf of sorts named Sindri will be there to lend a helping hand.

God of War 4” is slated to hit store shelves come early 2018, though no specific date as of yet. It will be a PlayStation 4 exclusive, a bummer to those who do not own the said console. The new iteration veers away from the previous titles, all of which happened within the confines of Greek mythology.
