During an interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on Monday (Nov. 27), the prince said the stars were aligned with their relationship. He was exactly right because some years ago he would not have been able to marry the actress. It seems that the rules associated with Kensington Palace and Queen Elizabeth are laxer than they have been in the past. In fact, many are saying Meghan is making history by being the first to take advantage of many of the revised rules.

Actually, there are six major things about Meghan that protocol would have made it impossible for the couple to get engaged and marry in May 2018 at Windsor Castle.

The Mirror reported some of the facts listed below.

1. An American

The 36-year-old was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and was named Rachel Meghan Markle. For the last seven years, she resided in Toronto, Canada to film her television series, "Suits." She is the first American to be engaged to a British royal. However, she will not be the first American to marry a British royal. King Edward VIII was in a relationship with twice-divorced Wallis Simpson. After one year, he abdicated the throne in 1939 to marry Simpson. They were never engaged. Meghan will become a British citizen.

2. Biracial

Prince Harry is fifth in line to the throne and needed Queen Elizabeth's permission to marry.

Queen Elizabeth had no problem giving permission for her grandson to marry the daughter of a white Jewish man and a black woman. Being biracial had no bearing on the queen's decision to grant or not grant the permission.

3. Catholic faith

Meghan was raised Catholic and attended a Catholic school. Before 2015, her faith would have kept Prince Harry from marrying her.

The ruling was changed in 2015 that a royal can marry people of other faiths. Even with the revised rule, before Meghan can walk down the aisle at St. George's Chapel, she must be baptized and confirmed into the Church of England since Queen Elizabeth is head of the Protestant Church of England.

4. Married and divorced

Markle was married to music producer Trevor Engelson for two years from 2011 to 2013.

Their divorce was finalized in 2014. Prince Harry's father, Prince Charles was divorced from his mother, Princess Diana before he married Camilla Parker-Bowles in 2005. Being divorced did not keep Queen Elizabeth from giving the couple her blessing for the marriage.

5. An actress

Meghan worked her way up to become a successful actress in the popular legal drama "Suits." She has already been written out of the series and has moved to London to live with Prince Harry. She will continue her humanitarian work as well as performing duties with the royal family. She said she didn't see it as having to give up so much to be with Harry because it's a way of being as happy as she is right now.

6. Three years older

Meghan is 36 and Prince Harry is 33. There is no British ruling that says the man should be older, but in most cultures, the woman is younger. In this case, Meghan is three years older than the man she is about to marry. This is just one more unconventional thing about their relationship, but they say they are so much in love so the difference in their ages doesn't matter.

Because the above things did not keep Prince Harry from proposing to Meghan, it shows that the royal family is not as strict as it used to be.
