After Xiaomi had rolled out the Mi Max 2 smartphone in India last week, Xiaomi launched another handset on July 26, the Xiaomi Mi 5X Android smartphone. As teasers and leaked videos of the highly anticipated mobile device are widespread on the internet, more than 800,000 people have registered to purchase the smartphone.

As reported by GSM Arena, the newly launched Xiaomi Mi 5X smartphone will be available with a 5.5-inch Full HD display with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution. The device will be up for grabs in three color options, Black, Gold and Rose Gold.

The handset will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 system on chip (SoC), paired with a 4GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage. Meanwhile, the higher version of the smartphone is equipped with a 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

Android Authority reported that Xiaomi’s new mobile device will also come along with expandable storage, 3,080 mAh battery, a fingerprint scanner, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The mobile device has a $222 price tag.

Camera specs

On the camera front, the Xiaomi Mi 5X smartphone boasts a rear dual camera set-up (12-megapixel + 12-megapixel) similar to that of the Mi 6. The smartphone was also shown sporting a horizontal dual camera setup of 12MP resolution. Aside from the dual camera setup, the mobile device will arrive with the Chinese tech giant’s MIUI 9 OS, based on Android 7.0 Nougat.

The mobile device will notably be the first handset of the company to ship with MIUI 9 out-of-the-box. The smartphone’s mobile operating system is expected to bring in some improvements, such as split screen multitasking, a new file system, built-in Image Search and Xiaomi's Smart Assistant.

On the other hand, the Mi 6 runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

This device would upgrade to MIUI 9 soon.

Connectivity front

Regarding connectivity, the smartphone is packed with a Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi 802.11, GPS, A-GPS and USB Type-C. The Xiaomi Mi 5X Android smartphone is also equipped with a high-quality audio output with a standalone audio amplifier and a DHS Audio Calibration Algorithm.

Xiaomi's latest smartphone weighs 165 grams and measures 155.4x75.8x7.3mm.

The new smartphone, which is considered as a Mi 6 Mini, arrives with a full metal unibody design. However, the smartphone lacks a splash-resistant screen. Regarding other features, the handset boasts an antenna bands, which gives the device an iPhone-like appearance. The release date of the smartphone is slated on August 1.
