A leaked poster revealed that the Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi is working on a new handset, dubbed the Xiaomi Mi 5X. The company’s official Weibo post also confirms that the smartphone with MIUI 9 will roll out on July 26.

Aside from the Xiaomi Mi 5X smartphone, the Weibo post confirms the release date for the Android Nougat-based MIUI 9. Gizmochina reported that although the operating system will not arrive with the Xiaomi Mi Max 2, the tech company appears to launch it alongside the Xiaomi Mi 5X Android smartphone.

MIUI 9 features

The MIUI 9 update is expected to be available with revamped icons as well as new wallpapers.

Tech fans can also expect that the Android Nougat-based OS will bring some new features, such as Picture in Picture mode and split screen mode. The company CEO, Lei Jun, already confirmed that the firmware will be powerful, smoother and more stable.

Specs and features of the smartphone

Meanwhile, the Mi 5X handset has gathered over 200,000 registrations for its first sale.

The achievement is notable for the reason that nothing much has been revealed about the mobile device yet, beyond its dual rear camera setup and Xiaomi's custom Android ROM, MIUI 9. Another factor that entices smartphone enthusiasts to register is the contest where registered individuals could win a mobile device, among other prizes.

However, the higher variant of the upcoming Xiaomi smartphone could feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 processor and a 6GB of RAM.

Both variants of the mobile device will come along with a 12MP dual rear cameras, which will include Samsung’s S5k3m3 sensor as well as Sony’s IMX386 sensor. As reported by GSM Arena, the Xiaomi Mi 5X smartphone will have a 16MP front camera for selfies.

In addition, the Xiaomi Mi 5X smartphone is expected to boast a 5.5-inch full-HD display with 1080p and a fingerprint scanner located on the rear panel of the device. The mobile device will come with a massive 5300mAh battery. The bottom edge of the mobile device is equipped with a 3.5mm headphone jack on the left, a USB-C slot in the middle and a speaker grille on the right side. The handset will be available in three color options - gold, rose gold, and black.

The tech giant already sent out invitations for the July 26 event, where it will announce the smartphone with MIUI. The event will take place at the Beijing National Convention Center. The Mi 5X is expected to have a 1,999 CNY price tag, which is approximately €256 or $295.
