While Donald Trump is usually the one who gets the most attention at the White House, there have been times that Melania Trump has found herself in the news. After tweeting her latest post on social media in regards to holidays at the White House, critics took time to fire back despite the message's innocent tone.

Melania on Christmas

Donald Trump came down an escalator inside Trump Tower in the summer of 2015 and announced that he was going to be running for president in the Republican primary. With his wife Melania Trump and other family members standing behind him, the former host of "The Apprentice" went on to give a controversial campaign announcement that has only evolved over the last two and a half years.

During that time, Melania kept a mostly low-profile, especially after being accused of plagiarizing her convention speech from one that was given by Michelle Obama years earlier. Since the election of her husband, Melania has been in and out of the spotlight, mostly due to her initiative of trying to end cyberbullying, which has resulted in ridicule from many who say it's hypocritical based on Donald Trump's history of attacking others on social media. Despite this, Melania has mostly avoided politics and stuck to more traditional activities reserved for the first lady in years past, including helping to decorate the White House for the holidays. As seen on her Twitter account on November 28.

Melania posted a video showing how the White House will be set up for Christmas.

Taking to her personal Twitter account on Tuesday, Melania Trump made sure to show off how the White House looked for Christmas and the holiday season.

"The decorations are up! @WhiteHouse is ready to celebrate!" Melania tweeted, before adding, "Wishing you a Merry Christmas & joyous holiday season!"

Over the weekend, Director of Communications for Melania Trump, Stephanie Grisham, tweeted out a still image of a dark hallway at the White House that was supposed to be in celebration of the holidays.

Both the still photo and Melania's video tweet have since been hit with mockery due to their horror movie-like atmosphere and alleged "tacky" presentation.

Social media response

Following Melania Trump's tweets about the Christmas, critics of the administration didn't waste anytime getting to work with their sarcasm and trolling. "Are Christmas decorations supposed to give you creeping anxiety and a feeling of lingering dread?" one Twitter user wondered.

"I’m so sorry for your loss.

Prayers for whomever died. Props for the super creepy funeral tho," one tweet sarcastically read, with another photo-shopping the image to include the twin girls from the horror movie "The Shinning." Another post followed up on the horror movie theme of "The Shinning" by tweeting, "Welcome to the Overlook Hotel. You have always been here."

In response to Melania Trump's video tweet, the reaction wasn't any kinder.

"More like a horror. Like this 'so-called presidency,'" an additional tweet added. "I would have rather you spent my tax dollars funding #CHIP program instead of tacky Christmas decorations," yet another Twitter user wrote, while adding, "Melania's 'Let them eat cake' moment." The backlash continued as Melania and the entire administration continue to be a source of humor for many Americans.
