Microsoft is finally pushing out add-ins support to Outlook on Android, six months after the same was rolled out for Outlook on iOS. On Friday, September, 8 Microsoft announced that users of Outlook on Android with Outlook.com and Office 365 commercial email accounts would be soon receiving add-in support. The first set of add-ins that Outlook on Android will be receiving include Dynamics 365, Evernote, Nimble, Translator, Outlook Customer Manager, OnePlaceMail, Trello, and Smartsheet.
The add-in feature for Microsoft Outlook was first introduced and released in February 2017. The app running on the iOS platform was the first to get the feature with the company promising that the same will be brought to the Windows 10 mobiles as well.
What does the add-in feature do?
Microsoft has designed the add-ins so that they are displayed as small icons when a person is communicating over mail. The add-ins are primarily extensions of the main app, which were added in the Outlook app to help a user multitask. For instance, with the help of the add-ins feature, the user can snip emails to Evernote or create a project card on Trello, without going back to the Home Screen and opening the main application.
To extend the numbers of app partners in Microsoft Outlook, the Redmond-based company is slowly and steadily working to get more apps on board the Android and iOS versions of the Outlook app.
