Earlier today, Xiaomi officially revealed some of its new smartphone models. One of those is the follow up to their almost bezel-less Mi Mix. The company introduced the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 and it appears to be quite a beauty.
The phone's “all-display” design apparently attracts attention and enhances the phone’s overall appearance. The company has been credited by users as the one that jump-started a new trend of smartphone design.
According to analysts, consumers tend to prefer mobile devices with more screen-to-body ratio these days.
Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 and other models
It has been rumored that Xiaomi is credited for the sudden increased demand for smaller bezels on smartphones. Its first model to flaunt such an appearance is the Xiaomi Mi Mix.
Industry experts have noted that since the aforementioned model’s release, other manufacturers like LG, Samsung, and Essential have adopted the same look. Even the upcoming iPhone X from Apple was revealed to sport minimal bezels, based on the leaked renders of the new model.
According to Droidlife, it’s a trend that hopefully encourages manufacturers to come up with innovative technology.
The Mi Mix 2 further improves what its predecessor offered and takes it up a notch with its construction.
Mix of new technology and materials
The original model was considerably large by most users’ standards, so Xiaomi adjusted their follow-up product. It appears that their goal is to make the handset easier to hold and operate with one hand.
Just like the Essential phone, which boasts a titanium construction for that added premium feel, the Mi Mix 2 opts for another unique material. While the frame appears to be made of metal, the back panel is made of ceramic. A special edition model is apparently available wherein the frame and rear cover are both constructed out of ceramic.
The new model also drops the piezoelectric speaker, which allowed the unit to channel sound through its body for a regular earpiece, which is razor-thin and discretely hidden in the top bezel.
Hardware, camera, and retail information
As expected from a premium smartphone, the smartphone will showcase a 6-inch FHD LCD touchscreen with a 2160 x 1080 display resolution. A Qualcomm 835 CPU is paired with a 6GB RAM for the 64GB and 128GB model, while an 8GB unit accompanies the 265GB variant.
Imaging is handled by a 12-megapixel Sony IMX389 sensor with OIS for its main camera, and a 5-megapixel unit acts as its selfie-shooter. USB-C, NFC, and cellular compatibility with global networks are also on board. Everything depends on a 3,400mAh rechargeable battery with Quick Charge 3.0 technology.
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 regular edition will reportedly cost around $500 USD for 64GB, $550 USD for 128GB, and $610 USD for the 256GB storage model. The special edition with a unibody ceramic construction will carry a premium price tag of $720 USD.
