Ahead of the 2017 Apple event, the company is all set to announce its product upgrades and new releases. Apart from the much-anticipated new iPhone, the Apple Tv is also expected to take the stage. In fact, it may just have some new, interesting features.
MacRumors revealed that the latest Apple TV will support 4K HDR content. In addition, the next iteration of the Siri remote for the Apple TV may showcase Haptic Feedback.
Code strings reference
Developer Guilherme Rambo took to social media information stemming from the iOS 11 leaks. His post showed references to force calibration, actuator calibration, and vibe waveforms captioning how he speculates that the Apple TV remote might have haptics.
Haptic feedback, or more commonly known as haptics, involves the use of touch feedback to the user. A sample of haptics at work is when a smartphone sends a tiny vibration upon tapping a navigation button.
Out with the old, in with the new
The current Siri remote has a touch surface that can be found on MacBooks. It possesses no capability for vibrating or responding to presses, taps, or onscreen activities.
This new addition to the upcoming remote may be very useful to users.
The technology will provide tactile feedback to the user whenever the device is in use. Further, it could serve as notification when a button is pressed or tapped or when a feature is activated.
Back in 2015, Apple first introduced this type of technology for iPhones through the Taptic Engine. However, the feedback feature has been present in Mac and other iOS devices for years now. As for the specific functions of the haptics on the new remote control, no official details have been given. It is likely that it will be discussed during the event.
What to expect from Apple TV
Several rumors have surfaced regarding the Apple TV.
The iOS 11 GM leak also confirmed speculations that the fifth generation model of the device will feature support for 4K streaming, Dolby Vision, and HDR10. With these revelations, requirements for the 4K Apple TV were also discussed.
This includes an internet connection of at least 15 megabits per second of bandwidth to avail 4K content streaming. In addition, an A10X processor may also be included as well as 3 gigabytes of RAM.
Clearly, Apple has a lot to reveal at its Tuesday press event, where we can expect the new iPhone to be the centerpiece. Other products expected to get exposure include the Apple Watch Series 3, which is newly equipped with LTE, and the enhanced AirPods.
