The Microsoft Surface Phone has been around the rumor mill since last year. It has been a long time since the company released new statements regarding the smartphone. According to DeccanChronicle, Microsoft filed a new Surface Phone patent on August 10. The patent indicates a metallic smartphone body, which further doubles as an antenna.

How does the metallic body work?

The latest patent is entitled “Cover of Device Acting as Antenna of the Device.” The patent was created by Antti Karilainen, the company’s Antenna and RF expert. The metallic smartphone body would ensure that users do not cause any interference or any sort of detuning.

With the metallic Surface Phone body, the signal strength of the device will not deteriorate, even if Microsoft will design it as a foldable device.

Not a typical smartphone

Earlier this year, Microsoft’s chief executive officer, Satya Nadella confirmed that the company is already working on a new smartphone. Satya Nadella also said that the upcoming Microsoft Surface Phone will not look like a typical smartphone. There are a lot of rumors and concept designs for it. The latest concept design that is spreading through the internet came from an artist named Amir Estefad.

Amir Estefad’s impressive concept video of the Microsoft Surface Phone was uploaded on YouTube recently. The video shows a smartphone with a sleek and elegant design.

The device will have an integrated home button underneath its front screen. It will also have pressure sensitive edges that might be integrated with specific functions.

Rumored features

The Microsoft Surface Phone will come with a new stylus pen. It will also have a large display screen with a bezel-less design. The most impressive feature shown in Amir Estefad’s concept video is the dual-lens 20-megapixel camera.

If ever this feature will come true, Microsoft can beat the iPhone 7 Plus’ 12-megapixel dual-lens cameras.

The company is rumored to release three Surface Phone variants, namely the Consumer Edition, Business Edition, and the Enthusiast Edition. One of the smartphones will sport Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor, and the other two will feature the Snapdragon 820 or the Snapdragon 821 processor.

The three variants will be running with Windows 10 Mobile operating system. The upcoming smartphone will feature USB Type-C ports. It might have an internal storage with 128 GB capacity, and a 6 GB RAM capacity.
