Google recently announced that it is developing an ad blocker for its search engine. The primary targets of the ad blocker are websites that shows annoying advertisements that automatically pops out. The official ad blocker feature is currently under development, and it is expected to arrive on early 2018. Google might also release a Chrome feature that can mute annoying websites. This is different from the said ad blocker.

How to use the mute option?

There are a lot of websites that has auto loading video and audio contents, which are very annoying for some users.

According to a report from TechCrunch, Google Chrome will soon allow users to permanently mute selected websites. The feature is currently available in the experimental Google Chrome Canary.

What is Google Chrome Canary?

Google Chrome Canary browser is designed to give developers and early user’s access to the newest features before it will be released to the general public. Developers can send feedbacks to the company so that if there are any issues it can be addressed quickly. The Google Chrome’s mute or unmute option will be located on the left side of the URL in the address bar. As for now, there is still no official release date for the ad blocker and mute button.

What are the examples of an intrusive ad?

Google is trying its best to take down the annoying ads and websites. There is a marketing industry body called Coalition for Better Ads that sets the qualities for an intrusive or invasive advertisement. According to the group, intrusive advertisements are those that pop up out of nowhere and use animations or auto-playing video or audio contents.

Ads that take up too much screen and has annoying countdown are also examples of an intrusive ads.

Google Pixel 2 set to launch on October 5

In other news, the most anticipated next-generation Google Pixel smartphone is set to arrive on October 5. According to the leaker Evan Blass, the Pixel 2 will be powered by a Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 836 processor.

There will also be two different versions of the smartphone, a standard Pixel and an XL version. It will include a 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage memory. The Pixel XL will have a 6-inch AMOLED screen display.

However, Evan Blass haven’t mentioned if the device will sport a dual camera system. Dual cameras are one of the trending features of high-end smartphones nowadays. If Google wants to rival giant smartphone makers like Apple and Samsung, its next flagship smartphone must have impressive cameras.
