Samsung, before the launch of its flagship smartphones Galaxy S8 and S8+, announced that the smartphone duo would be coming with an Exynos 8895 chipset, which is a part of its Exynos 9-series. (Note: the series number starts with the digit eight.) Thus, a true-blooded Exynos 9-series SoC is yet to arrive in the market.
However, that status may soon change as rumors are abuzz that the upcoming Exynos 9 coded chipsets will be arriving with the impending Note 8 and Galaxy S9.
Samsung Exynos chipsets
The Exynos SoC’s are Samsung’s processors, which are usually fitted in Samsung smartphones launching in South Korea and nearby countries. The latest offering from Samsung with regards to processors is the Exynos 8895 that is currently powering the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+.
In the benchmarking tests, the Exynos 8895 chipset was seen performing faster and better than Qualcomm’s latest offering, the Snapdragon 835. Samsung will be launching its latest addition to the chipset lineup - the Exynos 9610 - to compete with rivals such as Apple’s A11, Kirin 960, and Snapdragon 845 SoCs.
Exynos 9610 to power the Note 8?
It is rumored that the Exynos 9610 will be developed and manufactured on the 10nm process, which was used to create the 8895 chipsets as well as the Snapdragon 835. Although the manufacturing process will be the same between both the Exynos 8895 and the Exynos 9610, the latter is speculated to come with a faster clocking speed of 2.4 GHz.
However, the GPU embedded in the chipset will remain the same -- a Mali-G71 graphics subsystem. Apart from these, the Exynos 9610 is rumored to come accompanied with four Cortex-A53 to carry out the ordinary tasks and four high-powered Cortex-A73 nodes to manage less than mundane errands. Speculations are also rife that the upcoming Note 8 will be powered by this new chipset.
Galaxy S9 to be powered by a mysterious Exynos chipset?
Sources familiar with the matter shared with PhoneArena that the processor powering the Galaxy S9 will be different from the one fueling the Note 8. Rumors are abuzz that the former will be powered by a mysterious Exynos 9810 chipset, whose details are yet to be revealed. If rumors are to be believed, then the Exynos 9810 chipset will be developed using the 7nm technology, which will be an upgrade of the 10nm manufacturing technology.
Last, but not the least, another Samsung chipset is rumored to debut with the impending Galaxy A7 (2018). Speculations are rife that this handset will be housing an Exynos 7885 developed on a 14nm manufacturing process and will come with four A53 cortex and two A73 nodes. The chipset is rumored to clock at 2.1 GHz and will be accompanied by a Mali-G71 GPU.
