Last week, Oppo officially introduced its new mid-range models, the R11 and R11 Plus. As the name suggests, the two smartphones share almost the same specifications except for the physical and display sizes. The manufacturer considers these new smartphones as the latest members of their well-received R series, which flaunts a mix of premium materials, excellent build quality, a rewarding camera experience, and the company’s recognized selfie image quality.

The selfie-centric duo is also reportedly armed with Qualcomm’s new chips and VOOC fast charging with a slim 6.8mm overall thickness.

Design and physical features

The Oppo R11 and R11 Plus' overall design might seem familiar to a lot of consumers at first glance. It’s hard to deny these mobile phones bear a similar appearance to the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus respectively. However, unlike Apple’s latest flagship units, these Android smartphones feature thinner antenna lines that follow the enclosure’s curves on the top and bottom. The company logo sits in the middle while the regulatory information is etched towards the bottom half of the phone.

Its horizontally-positioned dual-cameras protrude within a small bump surrounded by a polished metal accent. A single LED flash sits beside the image sensors on the right.

On the opposite side, we can find the smartphone’s earpiece along with its front-facing camera on the top half. The lower portion holds a clickable oval home key/fingerprint sensor flanked by capacitive buttons on each side. The borders surrounding its Corning Gorilla Glass 5-covered display also sport a polished chamfer akin to its rear camera module. These surfaces add class to its overall appearance but are obviously prone to scratches and might eventually appear weathered.

The rest of its frame houses a hybrid SIM tray on the right, which accepts two nano SIM cards or a MicroSD card memory expansion instead, which is entirely dependent on the user’s preference.

Its power key is also found on the right side just below the SIM tray. The volume rocker sits by itself on the left side of the frame. The bottom side of the enclosure holds a speaker grille, a microUSB charging port, a mic pinhole, and a 3.5mm audio jack. Meanwhile, its top border only features a secondary mic pinhole for noise cancellation.

Hardware information

The two smartphone variants are touted as selfie-centric phones and include a 20MP image sensor with an f/2.0 aperture for its front-facing camera. Its main shooters are a combination of an f/1.7 aperture 16MP and f/2.6 aperture 20MP image sensors. Both units use an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 CPU partnered with an Adreno 512 GPU.

The R11 sports a 5.5-inch AMOLED display with a 401ppi pixel density, a 64GB internal storage, and 4GB of RAM. Meanwhile, the R11 Plus has a 6-inch AMOLED touchscreen with a 367ppi pixel density, a 128GB onboard storage, and a 6GB RAM. Both models run on Android 7.1.1 Nougat with ColorOS 3.1 and are powered by a 3,000mAh and 4,000mAh battery respectively.

Price, release date, and colors

The Oppo R11 and R11 Plus are scheduled to launch this June 2017 and will be available in Black, Rose Gold, and Gold colors. The mid-range smartphones will carry an estimated price tag of $439 and $542 respectively. A special Heat Red color of the smaller variant will also be released with a projected price of $469.
