This week will mark the iPhone’s 10th year anniversary, and Apple fans could hardly wait for the company’s next flagship smartphone – the iPhone 8. According to analysts, this next device could very well break the Iphone 6’s Record Sales when it was launched in late 2014.

CFRA senior equity analyst Angelo Zino predicts that the highly anticipated Apple device could ship more than 200 million units in its first 12 months, smashing the 75 million sales of iPhone 6.

Assuming that there are no more delays, the iPhone 8 is expected to go on sale in September.

Key areas in which the iPhone 8 could succeed

Tuong Nguyen, an analyst at Gartner, said the iPhone 8 needs to set itself apart in three key areas; Siri, artificial intelligence and augmented reality.

When it comes to virtual assistants, Siri still cannot compare to the power of its biggest rival - Google Assistant. Meanwhile, other competitors such as Samsung already has the edge regarding hardware. Samsung devices are known for its wireless charging and water resistance features.

Apple’s sales have declined for several years after giving only incremental changes to its iPhone device. These small changes made would-be buyers hold out until a significant upgrade has been made. Perhaps consumers are really waiting for the iPhone 8 to arrive, and this might be their time.

A complete overhaul of the iPhone

According to reports that have been circulating on the internet, the most significant change to the iPhone is its redesigned glass chassis. This means the wireless charging is now possible with an iPhone, although Apple has not confirmed any of these reports.

The next iPhone could also sport a sharper OLED screen for the first time that could cover the whole face of the device.

The company is reportedly working on embedding its fingerprint sensor into the display.

The camera of the device has been enhanced for augmented reality, according to reports. Apple even introduced an ARKit during its yearly developer’s conference held earlier this month. The new software would allow developers to create apps that would take advantage of AR.

If Apple wants to maintain its significance in the industry, this is the time to make its move before other competitors, even smaller ones like Chinese manufacturers, take control of the market share.
