Google has been very silent about the Pixel phones. In the wake of launchings and releases, it appears that the company has remained quiet for a while. Previous reports revealed that the company will release the highly anticipated Google Pixel 2, as to when no details were disclosed yet. However, that might not be the case anymore. As several reports today claimed that the company has been hiding something up on its sleeves.
Three new smartphones
Data found on Android code have surfaced online. The code revealed that the search engine giant is planning to launch three new phones running on Qualcomm's latest chipset, the Snapdragon 835. This information coincides with what Roland Quandt, who writes for German site Winfuture.de previously revealed. The writer published images of what he claims to be the potential successor of the Google Pixel and Pixel XL.
These three devices were reported to be concealed under codenames Taimen, Walleye, and Muskie. This also appears to jive with the company's pattern of concealing their devices with fish names for codes while in the development process.
ASOP
In Google's Android Open Source Project, a code was found apparently mentioning each device in comments. These observations are found under the code that discusses the Qualcomm MSM8998 or popularly known as the Snapdragon 835. This latest processor supports the next generation Gigabit LTE wireless networks that will roll out in 2017. It is also the same processor that the recently released Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus are using. The code suggests but does not confirm that the future Google devices, most likely one of them called Google Pixel 2, would use the Snapdragon 835 as their processor.
Supply shortage
For an unknown reason, the supply of Google Pixel and Pixel XL has been extremely constrained.
Verizon exclusively offers the devices. Google is also offering the devices without the contract. Several speculations claim that the company might be cutting the supply in preparation for the release of Google Pixel 2 along with the two other new phones.
More information about the code might be accessible at the next Google I/O 2017. While several reports claim that the Google Pixel 2 and the other two new phones will be launched at the said event, some believe otherwise. Taking into consideration the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the imminent release of iPhone 8, Google will most likely take some more time in developing their next devices. The Google I/O 2017 conference will start on May 17 and will commence on the 19th.
