The Oklahoma Sooners and Michigan Wolverines had dreams of making the 2017 NCAA postseason and heading into Saturday’s action it seemed like they would only strengthen those odds. They didn’t.

While their playoff dreams are not totally dashed, they have taken a severe blow. Both the Wolverines and Sooners were upset at home and will now have to basically win out and hope for other teams in the Top 10 to be upset if they are to climb back into contention for a shot at a NCAA title this season.

Dantonio continues dominance over Michigan

Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio may not get the big press like Urban Meyer or Jim Harbaugh, however, when it comes to beating the in-state rival Wolverines, the Spartans have done excellent under coach Dantonio.

Michigan State improved to 8-3 under Mark Dantonio's reign, and the latest Spartans victory put MSU in the Top 25 for the first time this season.

Michigan State is now the No. 21 team in the land. It wasn’t pretty, but in the end, the Michigan State Spartans held on for a 14-10 win over rival Michigan. The loss dropped the Wolverines all the way down to No. 17 from their previous No. 7 ranking.

Oklahoma was also stunned over the weekend by a non-ranked Iowa State squad. The Sooners got into a scoring battle with the Cyclones, something not many experts predicted would happen. In the end, Iowa State quarterback Kyle Kempt passed for 343 yards and three touchdowns, including a 25-yard shot to Allen Lazard that put Iowa State ahead with 2:19 left, leading ISU to the huge upset 38-31 victory over then No.

3 Oklahoma on Saturday. The loss dropped the Sooners from No. 3 all the way down to the No. 12 slot.
