It is finally here! The NFL Draft is the most anticipated draft of all the four major sports. Over the last two decades, the NFL Draft has taken on a life of its own. With their own primetime show, on the spot interviews, and over the top hype, once again the Draft will bring in millions of viewers across the US.
Detroit Lions fans will make up many of those viewers, and who can blame them? The Lions have had one of their best offseasons in terms of signing free agents in franchise history. Now with the No. 8 overall selection, Detroit has a lot of options to choose from on Thursday evening.
Offense, defense, or trade?
As the hype builds, rumors about who the Lions will select in the first-round tonight are hitting an all-time high. From sticking with Matt Patricia’s theme of building a monster defense, to possibly shocking the NFL world and drafting a quarterback, the rumors are all over the map.
From Florida State’s Brian Burns, Miss. State’s Montez Sweat or Michigan stud Rashan Gary, depending on where you look, the Lions could be taking one of these top pass rushers. Then again, many mocks have Detroit selecting Iowa tight end Noah Fant.
How about trading down? According to 97.1, the odds of the Lions trading down are very good. General Manager Bob Quinn has been open about his interest in trading down over the past few weeks.
Then again, it may depend on if the player the Lions are eyeing is gone before their No. 8 selection.
The Lions selections, round by round
Truth be told, Lions fans have no idea who they may select with the No. 8 pick. The decision could be set in stone already or come down to several players who the Lions have been eyeing and are still available at the time.
What we do know, however, is when the Lions picks are scheduled for. Detroit has nine selections in the 2019 NFL Draft. The Lions have one pick in each of the first five rounds. Detroit has two selections in rounds six and seven.
With all of those picks in front of them, something says they may be doing some wheeling and dealing early on.
We shall know that answer soon!
