Even though they lost in the NBA Finals last season, the Cleveland Cavaliers are still the hottest topic in the NBA this summer. Not only did they lose convincingly to the Golden State Warriors in the Finals, but they are also now in danger of losing one of their best players - Kyrie Irving. It was reported earlier this month that Irving went to the Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert, and asked to be traded away from Cleveland.

Nobody saw this coming as it seemed like Kyrie is perfectly happy to play alongside LeBron James in Cleveland, but apparently, that is not the case. Kyrie still has two more years left on his current contract with the Cavs, but the organization has to make the best possible decision as soon as possible. It would be tough for everybody involved to bring Irving back with the team next season, as the chemistry between him and LeBron James is obviously broken. One former Cleveland Cavaliers player was also surprised with Kyrie's trade request, and he commented on the situation.

Matthew Dellavedova weighs in

Many current and former NBA players and stars have already talked about the situation around Kyrie Irving, and the Cavaliers as most of them were surprised with it. Matthew Dellavedova shared the locker room with Irving for three seasons in Cleveland, and he is the latest player to comment about his trade request.

Dellavedova talked to Yahoo Sports and said that he was caught off guard with this news. "I was as surprised as everybody else when I saw that pop up on my phone.” said "Delly." He went on to say that he didn't see this happening at all and also complimented Kyrie Irving's game and skills by saying: "He’s probably the best one on one player in the whole world.

He can just score anytime he wants. I guess we’ll see what team he ends up on.” Apparently, Dellavedova knows what he's talking about since he and Kyrie played together from 2013 to 2016. They went to many battles together on the basketball court and also won the NBA title in 2016.

The Australian connection

Both Irving and Dellavedova were born in Australia, but Kyrie went on to play for team USA while Matthew plays for the Australian national team. Delly was¸a fan-favorite while he was playing for the Cavaliers and his best year in Cleveland was during the 2015/2016 season.

He averaged 7.5 points and 4.4 assists that season before joining the Milwaukee Bucks last summer. Last season with the Bucks, Dellavedova played 76 games and averaged 7.6 points and 4.7 assists per game.
