This offseason isn't going according to plan for the Cleveland Cavaliers and the time is running out. They have made a few moves this summer, but there hasn't been anything significant. If things don't get better, the Cavaliers will enter the next season without any major roster improvements, and they will need a miracle in order to beat the Golden State Warriors and reclaim the championship title.
After failing to acquire Paul George and Jimmy Butler, the Cavaliers set their focus on Carmelo Anthony. However, it won't be surprising if this turns out to be another failure for Cleveland, as they've struggled to bring big-name players to the team this summer.
Reportedly, LeBron James is frustrated and concerned with the team and the way this offseason has gone. James knows that it will take much more than the Cavaliers have to beat the Warriors, but it seems he will have to settle for less this time. Kyrie Irving recently talked about the Cavaliers and their offseason, saying that the team is in a very peculiar place.
Kyrie Irving's comments
"I understand we're in a very peculiar place," Irving said about the current situation. "We just have to, you know, make sure all our pieces are aligned first, and then we go from there. It's just summer time, a lot of craziness going on in the NBA." The point guard added that it's the best to observe what happens and then go from there.
While Irving's comments make sense, it's also true that the Cavaliers do not have time to waste when it comes to trading for superstars. First, Jimmy Butler was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves, then Paul George went to the Oklahoma City Thunder. If the Cavaliers want to acquire Carmelo Anthony, or any other player, they will have to make a move soon before another team steps in and does it.
Cleveland Cavaliers' situation
The Cavaliers are in a bad situation. Yes, they are still the best team in the East and they will most likely reach the NBA Finals once again. However, anything less than a championship is a failure for LeBron James. The Cavaliers forward has won three championships so far in his career, but he wants more and he wants to win every season.
Unfortunately, the Cavaliers don't have what it takes to beat the Warriors and they will get much worse if LeBron decides to leave the team next summer. He will be able to opt out of his contract and become a free agent, and there is no doubt that another loss in the finals would affect his free-agency decision.
