Despite still being in his prime, LeBron James already has big plans for his retirement. If things don't drastically change, the Cleveland Cavaliers forward will own an NBA team someday, as that seems to be his plan after he's done playing in the league. James said it would be cool to own a team and he would still be part of the game.
James loves basketball and it is not a surprise that he wants to keep being part of it even after his retirement. He is also a good businessman and there is a big chance that his team would be very successful in the league.
Besides, a team owned by such a great NBA legend would definitely be a great thing.
LeBron James will own a team
His retirement is at least five years away, but the four-time MVP intends to stay in the league for a longer period, one way or another. "I will own a team someday," LeBron James told Ken Berger of the Athletic. "That's my next thing." James also said how he believes that owning a team would be cool since he would stay in the basketball world and he'd be able to put people in a position of power. "I've always loved that, putting people in a position of power to feel like they can make a change and make things happen," LeBron said.
When talking about owning a team, James also said that he'd continue working with his current business partners, including his agent Rich Paul.
LeBron would surround himself with the people he trusts. Those are the same people who take some credit for James' success, so there is no doubt that they would keep doing a great job and make the team very good.
This was not the only time when the Cavaliers superstar mentioned owning a team. He did it also in August last year, saying his dream is to own a team.
"I feel like my brain as far as the game of basketball is unique and I would love to continue to give my knowledge to the game. And I would love to be a part of a franchise, if not at the top," LeBron said.
James is facing a tough challenge
Another thing that's on LeBron James' mind is the upcoming NBA Finals series. James and his Cavaliers will face a tough challenge against the Golden State Warriors and it won't be easy for them to defend the championship title.
Despite being defending NBA champions, the Cavaliers will enter the series as underdogs since the Warriors swept their way to the NBA Finals. It will be hard for LeBron to lead his team to a back-to-back championship, but it won't be impossible. Even though the Warriors will be extremely difficult to beat, James believes in his team and that confidence might get him his fourth championship ring.
