In case anyone had doubts about the continuity of the star wars series, he need not worry. Disney has drafted long-term plans for it. Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that the next movie in the series would release in 2022. The duo of David Benioff and D.B.Weiss, who created Game of Thrones, will direct it. In February 2018, Disney had indicated that Benioff and Weiss would be responsible to write and produce a new trilogy.

They had also announced that their set of three Movies would be quite different from what viewers have seen until now.

Daily Mail UK reports that Disney has revealed specific dates for the release of the next set of three movies in 2022, 2024 and 2026. They will all be in December around Christmas to capture the holiday crowd. However, this trilogy will not be of “The Last Jedi” director Rian Johnson but of the directors of “Game of Thrones.”

A new movie every year

In the past, Disney had dropped hints that they had plans to release a new Star Wars movie every year. The basis for such a decision was the overwhelming popularity of these sci-fi movies.

However, the lackluster box office performance of “Solo: A Star Wars Story” forced a rethinking. Disney CEO Bob Iger says Episode 9 is in progress and they finalized a deal with David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. They have made a name for themselves through “Game of Thrones,” and they would direct the next Star Wars movie.

Daily Mail UK adds that Bob Iger said –“Now we’re not going to wait until [Episode] 9 is released and then start figuring it out. We’re actually hard at work doing that already.” He explained about taking a breather of three years to reset the mechanism and gear up for the future. This break will come after the release of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” Once the duo of Benioff and Weiss takes over the 2022 release, they would probably go in for 2024 and 2026 for the second and third movies in their trilogy.

Change of director

According to Variety, “The Rise of Skywalker” was supposed to have ended the Skywalker spinoff saga. It started in 1977 with “Star Wars: A New Hope.” There was no clarity on the future of the series. However, Disney CEO Bob Iger has now confirmed that they have roped in David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, the men behind “Game of Thrones,” to work on the yet-untitled Star Wars movie due out in 2022. It will be the first in a series of three. The remaining two will schedule in alternate years 2024 and 2026. This will accommodate the sequels of James Cameron’s “Avatar.” Sequels. His plan is to start on Dec. 17, 2021, and continue in every other year through 2027. Obviously, there is a market for sci-fi movies where animation rules supreme. Such movies transport the viewer into a world of fantasy and make-believe and keep him spellbound for a couple of hours.
