In October the POP network stopped airing episodes of "The Bold and the Beautiful," without explanation. Now it is being reported that "The Young and the Restless" will also be dropped from the lineup. Fans of the happenings in Genoa City are blaming head writer/executive producer Mal Young because of all the changes he has made to the show since taking over the helm. The many frustrations for long-time viewers include the changing of past history, the alleged firing of Christian Leblanc and Doug Davidson along with the voids left by Michelle Morgan and Eileen Davidson leaving the Emmy award-winning program.
Mal Young blamed for POP network's decision
The fact that "The Bold and the Beautiful" was recently canceled may indicate that the Pop network's decision to discontinue "Y&R" has nothing to do with ratings, but many viewers beg to differ. Soap Dirt says Mal Young is being blamed because of what his writing style has done to life in Genoa City. Since taking over as head writer/executive producer.
Mal Young has allegedly fired Christian Leblanc who portrays Michael Baldwin, along with Doung Davidson who played Paul for 40 years. In addition, he could not reach an agreement with Michelle Morgan, (Hilary) who desired a pay raise, so she did not renew her contract. Young also promised big storylines for Neil and Devon but to date, they continue to be on the periphery of other characters' drama, including the storyline of Lily going to prison and Cane raising the twins alone.
It's only natural that fans would also blame the head writer for the POP Network's decision to cancel "Y&R."
Mal Young's changes to 'Y&R' infuriates fans
Fans are also upset that Mal Young has replaced Paul Williams with the Rosales family and it looks like Rey might take over as chief of GCPD. Lauren mentions her husband but there is no sign of Michael or explanation for his absence.
Soap Dirt indicates that ratings on "The Young and the Restless" have dropped dramatically since Young took over and viewers are furious.
There do not seem to be any changes coming in the next few weeks that will appease irate viewers as Soap Dirt indicates the Rosales family will remain front and center. Rey may solve J.T,'s murder, Lola continues her relationship with Kyle while Arturo remains stable in the Newman family with both business and pleasure.
Pop will air episodes of "The Young and the Restless" on the following day at 9:00 AM EST. Viewers can always tune in at the regular air time of 12:30 PM EST on CBS, and also catch the program on CBS ALL Access.
