"Saturday Night Live" took to social media this week to announce when the new season will premiere. Season 44 of "SNL" will kick off on Saturday, September 29. The tweet went out to the show's 2.29 million followers, had close to 8,000 likes, and well over 1,000 retweets. The next big question is: Who will host the premiere episode and who will be the musical guest for the big night?

Who will host is still unknown

Last year's season premiere of "Saturday Night Live" was hosted by actor Ryan Gosling and the musical guest was rapper Jay-Z. The final episode of season 43, which aired on May 19, had "SNL" alum Tina Fey as the host and Nicki Minaj an the musical guest. Taking on the hosting duties of a show as huge as "Saturday Night Live" is no easy task. Fans of the show are eagerly awaiting the announcement, which could come as soon as next week.

Other big questions that are floating around include inquiries about Alec Baldwin and the songstress Ariana Grande. Baldwin made quite a comeback with his spot-on impersonations of President Donald Trump, earning him a well-deserved Emmy nomination.

It's hard to imagine Season 44 kicking off without Baldwin, but viewers will have to wait and see.

It's no secret that "Saturday Night Live" cast member Pete Davidson is engaged to singer Ariana Grande. The two made headlines when Davidson popped the question to Grande after the couple were only dating for a little over a month. Since that time, they have gotten matching tattoos and seem to spend all of their free time together. The duo met a couple years ago when Grande made an appearance on "SNL," so many are wondering whether or not she will return to the SNL stage.

Emmy nominations

"Saturday Night Live" received a whopping 21 Emmy nominations for this year's Emmy Awards, behind HBO's "Game of Thrones," which received 22 nods.

Not only did the show receive a record number of nominations, but "Weekend Update" anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che will serve as co-hosts. This will be their first time hosting the Emmy Awards.

Alec Baldwin is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his entertaining impersonations of President Donald Trump. The lovely and hilarious Kate McKinnon and Aidy Bryant are both nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

"SNL" is up for the award of Outstanding Variety Sketch Series, going up against "At Home with Amy Sedaris," "Drunk History," "Portlandia," "Tracey Ullman's Show," and "I Love You, America with Sarah Silverman."

The 70th Primetime Emmy Awards will air on NBC on Monday, September 17 at 8PM ET.
