The latest updates and spoilers for "The Gifted" Season 2 reveal the Hellfire Club preparing themselves for a mutant uprising against humanity in a new TV spot trailer. Showrunner Matt Nix talked about introducing a new mutant character in the show during an interview with Slash Films (via Bleeding Cool).

"The Gifted" is a spin-off show set in the "X-Men" film universe and it centers around the Strucker Family trying to survive the harsh world of the human/mutant conflict. They seek shelter in the Mutant Underground as they fight to save both species and unite them under Professor Xavier's dream.

Hellfire Club vs Mutant Underground

According to Heroic Hollywood, the trailer starts with the Hellfire Club members, The Frost Sisters, killing several humans under orders from their new leader, Reeva Payge. She insists that it was a necessary evil to jumpstart her "Mutant Revolution" and urges every mutant to rise up and join them.

Reeva also addressed the remnants of the Mutant Underground, saying they must join them or continue the X-Men's failed and hopeless dream of coexistence. As the battle lines draw near, each character has a choice to make and their choices will define who they are and what they stand for.

Other scenes featured in the trailer reveal Reed Strucker getting his mutant powers back and Polaris giving birth to her baby as her powers go into flux.

The Mutant Underground must unite and save their friends from Reeva's grip before it escalates to total war.

A new mutant joins season 2

According to Bleeding Cool, Matt Nix teased a new original mutant character for the show named Twist. While the showrunner did not elaborate the character's details, he stated that Twist will play a huge role in the story.

“I can’t say a whole lot about her, but there’s a fun character called Twist who comes out and plays a big role in the season,” Nix told Slash Films. “Twist will appear in [episode] four or five.”

Nix also added that another faction will be added to season 2 that is far worst than Trask Industries. So far, two factions will be introduced in the show: The Morlocks and the Purifiers.

The San Diego Comic-Con trailer showed Blink joining the Morlocks in their underground home to hide from humans. The Purifiers are a religious, anti-mutant organization that hunts down and kill mutants around the globe to "cleanse" humanity.

The sophomore season of the "The Gifted" will premiere on September 25 on FOX.
