Kyle Richards broke down while discussing her strained relationship with her sisters, Kathy Hilton and Kim Richards, during last night's "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" reunion special, and explained why the two ladies may have gotten the wrong idea about her new show. As fans may have heard, Richards is producing a new series, "American Woman," about her childhood and unconventional upbringing.

Around the time the episode aired, Richards chatted with "The Daily Dish" podcast about the show, explaining that her sisters didn't really understand what the series would be about when she first spoke with them about the project.

As she explained, she told Hilton and Richards that the series wasn't a reality show, but a scripted series that would be loosely based on their lives growing up with mom Kathleen Richards. "It’s a fun show," she insisted.

Is 'American Woman' really a 'dark comedy,' as described?

According to Kyle Richards, the first announcement about "American Woman," which stars Alicia Silverstone, noted the series as a "dark comedy," which suggested the series would be sketchy. However, while there will be some moments that aren't exactly laugh-worthy, it is far from a horror. "I’m not here to torture anybody," she said.

After years of appearing on "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," Richards is excited to be trying something new and working behind the camera.

"I really, really love it," she said, adding that she had no idea that she would be so "neurotic" about making the series perfect. As she explained, it was extremely important to her that viewers felt that they were in the 1970s while watching the show.

Kyle Richards' relationship with her sisters isn't in a great place

During last night's conclusion of the three-part "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" reunion, Richards admitted that she hasn't spoken to her older half-sister, Kathy Hilton, in about six months.

As for her relationship with her older sister Kim Richards, they seemed to be on good terms at the end of last year. However, as some may have seen over the weekend, Kim was recently seen hanging out with Richards' longtime nemesis, Brandi Glanville, who used to be featured on the Bravo reality show.

While Kim Richards appeared on the reality series for its first seven seasons, she was not seen at all during season eight.

"American Woman" premieres on the Paramount Network on Thursday, June 7 at 10 PM.
