Hot on the heels of the reports that Marci Miller is leaving “Days of Our Lives” comes news regarding what “DOOL” will do with the character of Abigail Deveraux DiMera in response to Marci's departure. Fans immediately started to wonder if Kate Mansi, who left the role of Abigail in 2016, might reprise the role. Now the word is that Kate is indeed ready to head back to daytime and this will definitely get fans buzzing.

Fan-favorite Mansi is ready to do daytime again, for a short while

According to SheKnows Soaps, Kate Mansi is officially returning to “Days of Our Lives” as Abigail Deveraux DiMera.

Interestingly, however, it sounds as if this will not be a long-term return. Soap Opera Digest details that Mansi will be seen as Abby at some point this summer, but only for a brief period of time.

It seems that Marci Miller's decision actually came about a while ago and she simply decided not to renew her contract. Miller has not yet addressed these reports, but "DOOL" fans can't help but wonder if the oftentimes vicious treatment she got on social media from viewers might have played a role in her decision to depart.

Miller may have made the decision to leave the soap a while back, but the news apparently stunned those on the set. It's not known as of yet when Marci will stop appearing as Abigail on “Days of Our Lives” or when Kate's scenes will start airing.

Viewers will see this play out over the summer

The character of Abigail is central to the current “Days of Our Lives” storyline world, but the show does tape about six months ahead, so things could be in a very different place by the time Miller leaves and Mansi returns. It certainly is reassuring to viewers that they won't be facing another recast, as not all "DOOL" fans were won over by Marci's portrayal of the character as it is.

However, it'll leave many rattled to know that Mansi is apparently only returning for a short arc.

Where will the writers leave things with Abigail when these changes take place over the summer? Will they kill off Abigail with Mansi back in the role, send her back to a mental health institution indefinitely, or have her ride off into the sunset with Chad?

There is a lot of talk swirling about Billy Flynn, who plays Chad, and his status with the show too, as it seems uncertain whether he's planning to stick around or not. When push comes to shove, "Days of Our Lives" fans may feel best about simply having Chad and Abigail, with Flynn and Mansi in the roles, happy and leaving Salem to tackle new adventures elsewhere.
