Despite confirming that a number of its existing television shows will be canceled this forthcoming year, TV Insider confirmed that the television network, Fox, has confirmed that it has given the green light to a new series based on the novel “The Passage.” Fox has recently received quite a backlash following the network’s decision to cancel its continuation of the beloved comedy “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” It was subsequently picked up by NBC, but that doesn’t seem to have stopped them from announcing their future pick-ups, with now being the time of year that networks release their fall schedules.
The series will be based on the book ‘The Passage’
Originally published in 2010, Justin Cronin’s story “The Passage” follows a security breach at a government-run facility that releases the result of a disastrous military experiment. In an attempt to flee the results of a now-crumbling society, FBI agent Brad Wolgast takes on the responsibility of acting as the guardian of six-year-old experiment refugee Amy Harper Bellafonte. Despite the tough times that the two face in front of them as a result of the terror that Amy’s captors are reigning on civilization, Brad is determined to protect her and keep her safe.
Fox has now confirmed that the network has given the go-ahead for the production of the series which will be focused around vampires wreaking havoc in a post-apocalyptic world following the breach of the aforementioned military project. Considering the series is based on the best-selling trilogy by Justin Cronin, there’s no doubt that fans of his writing will be eager to see the adaptation brought to television in the near future.
Ridley Scott will act as executive producer
The series has so far been described to be a “character-driven thriller” and will look into the journey of the two main characters who battle against a society that is faced with a virus that could either cure all diseases or bring the downfall of humanity as they know it.
It’s fair to say that, with the television network being increasingly selective in regards to what shows they choose to renew and push towards production, they’re holding the future series to fairly high expectations.
However, those expectations don’t seem to be in vain, either. With the confirmation of the show being greenlit for production and set to premiere this Fall, Fox has also revealed that the series will hail from co-executive producers Ridley Scott – who’s known for his well-received projects such as the “Alien” franchise – and Matt Reeves, who worked as the director for “War for the Planet of the Apes."
Further details regarding the production and the show’s forthcoming release are still to be revealed, but it’s rather confirmed that the series will make its debut in Fox’s Fall 2018 line-up.
We can expect to see faces such as “Broadwalk Empire” star Vincent Piazza, “Bloodline” star Jamie McShane, and “The 100” star Henry Ian Cusick has been credited with a role as well.
With so many already esteemed television shows being given the ax by large corporate networks like Fox, viewers are left wondering just how well yet another vampire-based narrative will be received. We’ll just have to wait and see.
