Despite going through a divorce, Donald Trump Jr. decided to take some time to wish his ex-wife, actress, reality show star and former model, Vanessa Trump a Happy Mother's Day. In response, critics on social media were quick to point out the irony.
Don Jr. on Mother's Day
From the day Donald Trump announced his campaign for president, speculation about the personal life of the Trump family has remained in the headlines.
During the 2016 election, Trump's reported infidelity and alleged sexual assault became a major scandal that has yet to let up. While the president is currently dealing with the fallout of the Stormy Daniels affair, his son Donald Jr. is also having relationship troubles. Earlier this year it was reported that Vanessa Trump filed for an uncontested divorce from Don Jr. in a Manhattan courtroom, which was followed by additional reports of the younger Trump's infidelity with singer Aubrey O'Day.
Despite being currently linked to Fox News host Kimberly Guilfoyle, Donald Trump Jr. took to Twitter on May 13 to wish his ex-wife a Happy Mother's Day.
"Happy Mother’s day to the best mom in the world," Don Jr. tweeted out. "Vanessa enjoy your day, you’ve certainly earned it dealing with those 5 munchkins and me," he added, while attaching several pictures of himself, Vanessa, and their five children. As expected, the irony of the tweet came back to haunt the president's son in the form of an onslaught of mockery in the comments section.
Twitter responds
Within minutes of Donald Trump Jr. tweeting a Happy Mother's Day to Vanessa Trump, those who oppose the Trump family and administration made sure to chime in. "5 munchkins, you, and all your affairs you mean, right? Such a great family man!" one tweet read.
"I thought she left you because you were cheating with the Apprentice woman and are now dating the Fox News woman?" author Dan Ozzi tweeted.
"You want this woman, who has been publicly shamed, embarrassed and humiliated to go back to this cheater?? Shes leaving him!! You Trumpers are really really strange. Right or wrong means nothing to you. You make excuses for awful behavior. Shameful!" another tweet went on to read.
"Please stop using your children as photo ops. I seriously think it puts them in danger," a social media user wrote. "A swell gift might have been not cheating on her," a follow-up tweet read. The mockery continued as the opposition to the Trump family kicked into high gear, even on Mother's Day.
