Things are not looking good for the future of "Lethal Weapon" right now. This show is a fan favorite and the ratings are great, but that may not be enough to keep it around. Deadline shared the news that a few things going on behind the scenes with actor Clayne Crawford that may be enough to get the show canceled before season three.
Details about possible cancellation
Deadline explained the details and they say that Clayne Crawford has a history of bad behavior on the show. Their report says that he has been "disciplined several times over complaints of emotional abuse and creating a hostile environment." It sounds like it is getting worse and making people not want to work with Clayne at all.
They are not giving all of the details just yet. This is going to make it hard to get everyone to come back for a third season.
It took a long time for the show to cast Clayne Crawford in the role. He also isn't working with the talent agency anymore that helped him to get the job. He has fit in perfect as Riggs, though.
Should they do a recast?
There are a few options to keep the show going and one would to do a recast. This show would be hard to go on without the character of Riggs. He makes the show and was a big part of the movies that inspired it as well. The chemistry between these two police officers will be hard to find again. It would probably feel like a new show if they do a recast or bring in a new partner.
TV Guide shared that Fox is actually considering doing a recast of the role. The idea of someone else playing Riggs is a pretty hard one, but they might do something else. Damon Wayans is still there as Murtaugh. He would need a new partner that could be someone else playing the role of Riggs, a new male partner or even a new female that is his partner.
Riggs does so many crazy things that it would be easy to make him just leave town randomly or kill off the character.
At this time, Fox hasn't even renewed "Lethal Weapon" for the third season. The issues going on could end up making them decide to just cut ties with the show and be done with it. Right now, you can watch new episodes on Tuesday nights.
The fans are just going to have to see how it all plays out because for now the future of "Lethal Weapon" is totally up in the air.
