"Riverdale" season 1 introduced fans to a new and darker world of the beloved Archie characters with a noir and deadly twist. Season 2 upped the drama with a serial killer and a closer look at a few of the prominent families. Archie has spiraled throughout the season as his dad was the first target of the Black Hood and is now so invested in the Lodges' family business that he and his dad are now on opposite sides.

The family drama keeps on giving as Betty continues to deal with her shady new found brother Chic, Jughead fights to protect the Serpents, Kevin and Josie discover their parents' affair, and Cheryl's dark family secrets continue to unveil.

The series stars KJ Apa as Archie, Lili Reinhart as Betty, Camila Mendes as Veronica, Cole Sprouse as Jughead, Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl, Ashleigh Murray as Josie, Casey Cott as Kevin, with Marisol Nichols as Hermione, Luke Perry as Fred, Madchen Amick as Alice, Mark Consuelos as Hiram, and Skeet Ulrich as F.P.

Cast teases 'Carrie' musical and Black Hood drama

More drama is set to come when the series returns April 18 with "A Night to Remember," the show's musical "Carrie" episode. The episode will find Archie and the gang taking up parts in the school musical, except Kevin who will be directing the production with Serpents' member Fangs and Jughead who will be producing a documentary behind the scenes.

Camila Mendes shares with Variety that the stories featured in the musical will parallel what's happening elsewhere in the episode. EP Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa shares at Paleyfest that the musical is something they've wanted to do since season 1 with Madelaine Petsch adding that after seventeen episodes it was fun for the cast to do a musical.

Aguirre-Sacasa teases during Paleyfest that fans haven't seen the last of the Black Hood who was revealed earlier to be the school janitor. The EP adds that they always knew the janitor wouldn't be working alone and that they had three likely suspects, but they have a clear idea who the reveal they've been writing towards. It won't be until the last couple of episodes before fans will get a Black Hood unveiling. KJ Apa tells TVLine that Archie will come against several instances that will make him question if the Hood is still out there, and this will further his drive to seek justice.

Cheryl's relationship with Toni to be explored

The remaining episodes will also continue to explore Cheryl and Toni's budding relationship which has seen a significant moment in Wednesday's episode when Toni rescued Cheryl from the Sisters.

Madelaine Petsch shared to Variety that the episodes will explore Cheryl's sexuality and how Toni has helped her find a love for herself. Petsch adds how Cheryl's mom has forced her to push down that part of herself.

Another relationship which will be explored is the interesting dynamic between Alice and FP who have a history dating back to when Alice was a Serpent. Skeet Ulrich also teases to Variety that while Jughead's mom and sister haven't been cast yet they're definitely in the show's future.

Expect to see more of Betty's dark side as she deals with her brother Chic, who may have left the house in Wednesday's episode but won't be going away anytime soon. Lili Reinhard shares an ominous foreshadowing with Variety, teasing Betty's upcoming journey will involve self-harm and it won't be a storyline that's wrapped up quickly.

It's safe to say the second season finale will be full of bigger twists than season 1, but it's unknown how many of this season's storylines will be wrapped up by the end.

Remember to watch "Riverdale" take on "Carrie" April 18 on the CW.
