The Daytime Emmy nominations were announced earlier today. Soap fans have been waiting to find out the nominations for several months now. There were several actors in the pool to be chosen, but only a handful made it through the final round and into the potential winner's circle. While “General Hospital” and “The Young and the Restless” lead the pack, “Days of our Lives” and “The Bold and the Beautiful” are still contenders.
'General Hospital' nominations
There was some talk about Kelly Monaco being a favorite for a nomination, and yet, she didn't make the cut.
Playing Sam Morgan over the last two years have been challenging for her. Monaco has done an amazing job but apparently, her costars did a better job in their reels. Nancy Lee Grahn, Maura West, and Laura Wright were all nominated. They play Alexis Davis, Ava Jerome, and Carly Corinthos respectively. Hayley Erin and Chloe Lanier (Kiki Jerome and Nelle Benson) were nominated in the younger actress category. The men fared a little worse than the women with Michael Easton and Billy Miller heading up the group for the best leading actor for their portrayal as Finn and Drew Cain. In the supporting category, Wally Kurth and Anthony Montgomery round it out for their roles as Ned Quartermaine and Andre Maddox.
Finally, the younger actor category saw Hudson West nominated for his role as Jake Webber.
'The Young and the Restless' names that made the cut
It looks like “The Young and the Restless” seems to be the biggest competition for “General Hospital.” The nominations for the women consist of several strong contenders. Eileen Davidson comes in as the only leading actress nominee for her portrayal of Ashley Abbott.
The supporting actress category is dominated by the “Y&R” team. Mishael Morgan, Marla Adams, Camryn Grimes, and Elizabeth Hendrickson are all nominated for their roles as Hilary, Dina, Mariah, and Chloe. Cait Fairbanks was nominated for her role as Tessa in the younger actress category. Peter Bergman is nominated in the lead actor category for his role as Jack Abbott.
The supporting category saw Greg Rikaart nominated for his role as Kevin. This was a bit shocking given the drama surrounding his situation with the show and the status of his future. Tristan Lake Leabu was nominated for his role of Reed in the younger category.
All four of the prominent soaps are up for the best drama, but the real competition lies between these two soaps. They dominate the ratings and have each been on the air for several decades. As of now, there is no information on whether or not the show will be shown to the public but fans are hoping that it will.
