Patton Oswalt, 49, married Meredith Salenger, 47, November 5, 2017, after mere months of dating, Oswalt told US Weekly on February 7, 2018. The couple spoke on Facebook nightly for three months giving them ample time to get to know each other. they believe. During that time the couple's bond continued to grow. Patton stated that Meredith was such an "extraordinary human being" and it was a "no-brainer" that he continued to communicate with her. It didn't take him long to do such.
After those three months of talking on Facebook, the couple began actively getting to know each other for another solid month before Patton decided, "Yeah, this is the person I am going to spend my life with." Just one month.
Oswalt and Salenger were seen publicly together for the first time in June 2017, at the "Baby Driver" premiere. By July the pair were engaged. By November, they were married. Today, the comedian continues to glow when speaking about Meredith.
Oswalt is a widower
Oswalt became a widower in April 2016, after his wife, Michelle McNamara, died suddenly in her sleep. The couple had one child together, 8-year-old Alice Rigney Oswalt, who stood in at her father's second wedding as the flower girl. Patton told US Weekly that his favorite wedding moment was when he was standing at the altar watching Alice walk down the aisle as the flower girl and she gave him a hug before the bride walked down the aisle.
He went on to say that he almost started to cry. It was as if Alice were saying to him everything was going to be okay. "It felt amazing. That moment," he said.
McNamara passed away due to a combination of prescriptions and an unknown heart disorder. She made a name for herself by carving out a place on the Internet called, "True Crime Diary." It is on her website where she covered cold cases and breaking crime stories.
Michelle developed her writing skills at the University of Notre Dame and went on to polish them even further by obtaining a masters degree in creative writing from the University of Minnesota. McNamara and Oswalt married in 2005 and welcomed daughter Alice in 2009.
When Oswalt spoke to US Weekly about Salenger, he said that she is a wonderful, thoughtful stepmom to Alice.
He went on to say that Meredith is the perfect example of the kind of woman he would like for Alice to grow up and be like. Meredith is so much more than just a good mom. The way she treats people, the way she lives, those are the types of things Patton thinks make her incredible. That is what is "the most important," he said. Marrying Meredith "felt like coming home," he states.
Salenger is no stranger to the big screen. Many will remember Meredith from the popular Corey Haim and Corey Feldman 1980s movie, "Dream a Little Dream." Other movie credits include "The Journey of Natty Gann," "A Night In the Life of Jimmy Reardon," and "The Kiss." After her teenage acting career, Meredith went to the Pepperdine University Law School and these days when she is not filming, she is a mediator for the Agency for Dispute Resolution in Beverly Hills, California.
Salenger and Oswalt have never worked together professionally, but he says he is open to the idea. "That would be amazing," he told US Weekly. Patton went on to say that if the couple were to work together it would make his "acting better" because working with someone who has more skills, plays on your strengths, and capabilities, just makes the other person better at their own set of skills.
Patton says he will not put the wheels in action. If it were to happen it will, and he wants it to happen naturally. Oswalt feels that meeting Meredith was a happy, very lucky accident for him. That is just how he wants the project to be if they were to end up working together. Neither wants something forced and awkward.
You can tell that Oswalt is still smitten and gushing over Meredith, and considering what he and Alice have been through, that is a good thing.
Will this be true love that lasts? One would wonder, with such a short getting-to-know-each-other and dating period, how well can the couple know each other? Speaking through Facebook nightly hardly seems to be equivalent to in-person interaction. One hopes this is not another fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants Hollywood wedding that will be over before the second half of "Vikings" Season 5 starts late 2018.
Here's to wishing Patton and Meredith many happy years of holy matrimony.
