"The Walking Dead" mid-Season Finale has caused quite a stir among die-hard fans. It is a safe assumption that AMC, Robert Kirkman, and Scott Gimple delivered what they promised...the most shocking character death yet.

Future of 'Walking Dead' debated

Spoiler warning

Fans are really torn by the events that took place during the finale, with many believing that the decision to kill off Rick's son Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) just buried the popular zombie apocalypse series.

Comics versus TV: More changes coming

It has been a huge debate across social media networks as to how the show will proceed once Carl is gone.

It is no secret that this is a major veer from the comic books and will force the series into completely unknown territory.

Comic book fans have always taken great comfort in knowing which direction the series would most likely be going from season to season. Now, with Carl's impending death it is anybody's guess. To say there were mixed emotions following the finale is an understatement. Fan reactions ranged from complete shock to anger, confusion, and disbelief.

Since the beginning, it has been the belief that every event and obstacle that Rick has led the group through was all for his greater cause, the survival of his children. It was believed that when the end finally came for the AMC series that Carl Grimes would be the last man standing.

So where do we go from here now that Scott Gimple has shattered that belief?

It is anyone's guess, however, there have been a few theories floating around on the matter. Comic followers are well aware that the next part of the "Walking Dead" group's mission in life was to center around Carl. Now, with Carl out of the picture, how will the story continue?

Many believe that Daryl Dixon could take on Carl's part, while others think a time jump involving Judith could be the answer.

There have even been discussions that Enid could be a key player in taking on The Whispers. There are so many unanswered questions going through fans' minds. Unfortunately, we will not know what the consequences of killing off Carl Grimes will be until February 25th, 2018.

From the sneak peek clips that have been released so far it looks as if the group will vow to finish off the "All Out War" with Negan in Carl's honor. There will, of course, be more bloodshed, and hopefully we will not see the demise of any of the last original surviving group members: Rick, Daryl, and Carol.

Fans are still reeling from Season 7's deaths of both Abe Ford and Glenn Rhee. In the end, we know no one is safe, but now that Carl is gone, who do you think will be the last person standing? Will it be Rick, Carol, Daryl, or someone else entirely?

"The Walking Dead" Season 8B returns to AMC on February 25, 2018 at 9 PM.
