The holidays are on the horizon; schools are closing, retail workers are at their peak, it's gotten colder, and Christmas is just a few days away. As the end of 2017 begins to loom, a fresh release of anticipated movies flood the theatres. It's the perfect time of year for a treat, date, or family outing, so we've compiled this list to see you through the celebrations, and into the New Year.

'Star Wars: The last Jedi'

With the 8th movie in the "Star Wars" franchise comes a whole new set of questions and answers. At the end of "The Force Awakens," we saw Rey confronting Luke Skywalker to ask for his help fighting the New Order.

It was released a few days ago, on December 15, 2017, and is a huge 152 minutes of running time. It's not a sequel to be taken lightly, and it's packed with unexpected twists and turns; the ending, especially, threw a lot of fans off and left everyone wondering what the final installment of the trilogy will entail.

'Pitch Perfect 3'

It's not all about a capella anymore, and the Bellas are facing a new challenge. Following their win at the world championship, the Bellas reunite for one last competition at an overseas USO tour. Immediately, they find themselves in trouble when they face off with a group that uses both instruments and voice in their performances. "Pitch Perfect 3" is the third and final installment in the "Pitch Perfect" trilogy, has the same all-star cast, and is scheduled to be released on December 22, 2017.

'The Greatest Showman'

"The Greatest Showman" is an original musical that celebrates the birth of show business. The movie stars Hugh Jackman as P. T. Barnum, an ambitious showman who feels he has something more to offer the world. The story tells of a visionary who rose out of obscurity to create something new, which soon became a worldwide sensation.

He is a character who brings together a group of people and gives them a family. It's a heart-warming, dramatic tale, to be released on the big screen December 20, 2017.

'Downsizing'

In a scenario where the solution to over-population is to shrink yourself, "Downsizing" is the story of a man who comes to the conclusion that adding himself to the smaller sized population would enable him to live a better life.

People soon realize how much further money goes in a miniaturized world, and with the promise of a better life, protagonist Paul Safranek and his wife, Audrey, decide to abandon their stress-filled lives in order to become small and move to a new downsized community. But not everything goes to plan. "Downsizing" stars, Matt Damon and is coming to theatres December 22, 2017.

'Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle'

"Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" is considered a standalone sequel, or re-adaptation of the 1995 film "Jumanji". The newest version follows four teenagers who discover an old video game console and are drawn into the game's jungle setting; they physically become the adult avatars they chose to play the game as.

They must beat the game in order to return to the real world, but the jungle is treacherous and filled with dangers that the four teenagers will have to face. The film is a tribute to Robin Williams, star of the original film, who died in 2014. It stars Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart and is scheduled for release on December 20, 2017.
