Fans of "Riverdale" know that they are doing something a bit different this season as they are going to introduce Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Melissa Joan Hart is best-known for playing this role and EW got the chance to talk to her about her thoughts. When she played Sabrina, she was a really sweet girl, but the character this time around is going to be a bit darker. It is a totally different show, but with the same characters or at least some of them.
What did Melissa have to say about the new version?
One thing that Melissa Joan Hart explained is that she didn't have any say so at all in the way they did things.
It turns out that the rights reverted back to the Archie Comics. Melissa explained saying, "and they’re doing "The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina", which is a darker sort of twist."
Melissa went on to say that when she was on the show it was more of a family show and she is getting the impression that the new version is going to be more about witchcraft and darker stuff. Fans of "Riverdale" know that this show is a bit darker, so that would make sense for sure. Melissa Joan Hart went on to say, "I think it sounds more Buffy the Vampire Slayer than it does Sabrina, so I think it will appeal to a different kind of audience and be a totally different show.” This should have the teenagers interested, but it won't be a show for younger kids.
What can you expect with the new show?
The new show will be a spin-off of "Riverdale." Normally with this kind of show, they introduce the characters on the original and then the spin-off starts, so that is probably how this will work as well. So far, Sabrina has been missing from "Riverdale" and hasn't been introduced just yet.
The CW is known for doing spin-offs like this one and they also have a few others in the works right now including one for "Supernatural." So far, there is no word on how soon the spin-off will be coming, but the fans can't wait to see how it turns out. This is going to be a lot darker than the original and it will show Sabrina struggling with being half-witch and half-mortal.
It should be starting during the 2018-2019 season of new shows. For now, the new show will be called "The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina." It hasn't been confirmed if Sabrina will show up on "Riverdale" this season, but the viewers really could see that happening.
