Things do not seem to be getting better for Harvey Weinstein. Last week, the New York Times published an investigative report revealing that he's been paying off his Sexual Harassment victims over the past three decades. On Sunday, he was fired from the company he co-founded which has since announced it would change its name from The Weinstein Company. It was reported that Weinstein's wife, Fashion Designer Georgina Chapman, was staying with him over the weekend which caused a lot of speculation about what action she would take.
Unforgivable actions
On Tuesday, A-list celebrities Gwenyth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie revealed that they had been sexually harassed by Weinstein early in their careers. Following this news, Chapman announced that she is separating from her husband.
The two would have celebrated their 10-year-anniversary in December had they stayed together. They have two children together -- India Pearl, age seven, and Dashiell Max Robert, age four.
In her statement to People, Chapman says that her "heart breaks" for all of the women who have suffered pain due to Weinstein's "unforgivable actions." She announced that she would be leaving her husband, putting emphasis on what her priority is: raising her children.
The fashion designer has asked the media for privacy during this time.
Change of heart?
Weinstein originally said she was supporting him through this, but the continuation of allegations must have led Chapman in a different direction.
In his only interview following the New York Times article, he told the New York Post that "she stands 100 percent behind me." He said that his wife was supporting and motivating him to get the help he needs. In the same interview, he called the New York Times' reporting "reckless" saying it was completely full of lies.
He apparently plans to sue the company for $50 million, telling the New York Post that the next time he'll see Times' executive editor Dean Baquet will be in a courtroom.
He hired acclaimed lawyer Charles Harder last week, proving he is not messing around.
Though Weinstein has said he has already started treatment, reports say he has still not left the Los Angeles hotel he and his wife stayed in amidst the scandal.
Many celebrities and political figures like George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Hillary Clinton, and even the Obamas have spoken out on the sexual harassment scandal. This leaves many waiting to hear a response from President Trump, considering he has faced many of the same allegations.
