It looks like fans’ high hopes to see a returning character in “Game of Thrones” Season 8 have been debunked. A lot of viewers expect to see the return of Michiel Huisman to reprise his role as Daario Naharis, leading the Golden Company in the new season, but it seems like it will never happen.
Watchers on the Wall reported that Marc Rissmann will be joining the television show’s final chapter as Harry Strickland. In George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” novel series, he was known as the true leader of the Golden Company mercenary group and not Daario.
So, theories about him are now proven untrue.
The real leader
The coming of Marc Rissman in “Game of Thrones” Season 8 fits the casting call for a mercenary leader that is set to be seen in two of the new chapter's six episodes.
As it has been confirmed that Rissman is going to take the role of Harry Strickland, it means that he will be the Golden Company’s real leader and not Daario Naharis. There are theories suggesting that Daenerys Targaryen’s (Emilia Clarke) former lover will be the head of the mercenary group that will secretly work with her to take the Lannisters down. This is in spite of pledging their royalty to Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey).
This, too, will supposedly make way for the return of Michiel Huisman after being last seen in the sixth season.
Daario’s real mercenary group
Daario Naharis was never been part of the Golden Company. Daario was first introduced in “Game of Thrones” Season 3. He was first portrayed by Ed Skrein, then he was replaced by Michiel Huisman starting in the fourth season.
He was originally a lieutenant in the Second Sands, a sellsword company, which was different to the Golden Company.
However, after he killed his superiors, Meron and Prendahl na Ghezn, he took over and swore his loyalty to Daenerys. He served as her advisor and eventually became her lover. But when she sailed to Westeros, he stayed in the Bay of Dragons to keep Meereen in peace.
The difference between two mercenary groups
The Second Sons and the Golden Company are two different mercenary groups, Gizmodo reported.
They have their own set of “skills, demands, and power structures.” They are both very competitive, so it is impossible that they will be working together. And if they ever merge their power,s surely Daenerys will know about it. Now, it is a big question if Daario will return to help Dany fight the Great War.
"Game of Thrones" Season 8 is expected to be released in 2019 on HBO.
