The Oscar-winning actress has opened up about her divorce from former husband Ryan Phillippe and has shared what she learned from the experience. The 40-year-old mother is extremely content with her life and the way things worked out and has stated that she would not change anything for the world.

Reese first married when she was 23

According to Elle, Reese Witherspoon got married to Ryan Phillippe when she was only 23-years-old. The pair met on the set of the movie "Cruel Intentions" and played each other's love interest throughout the film.

They began a relationship during that time, and when Phillippe proposed to Reese, she was over the moon

Witherspoon and Phillippe went on to have two children together, but unfortunately, their marriage did not last. The couple split in 2006, seven years after they tied the knot in 1999. Witherspoon has stated that she does not regret marrying Ryan in the slightest and thoroughly enjoyed their time together.

According to Refinery 29, Reese stated that she was simply too young when she got married and that she did not really know whom she was a person. Witherspoon explained that she did not get to know herself until her mid-twenties. She explained she now knows that she should have waited until that time before deciding to settle down.

The actor talks fondly about her children

According to Today, Reese Witherspoon revealed all during an interview on the show. The actor stated that she would not change a thing that had happened in her life, including the divorce with Ryan. Reese explained that she gained two beautiful children and some great memories during her and Ryan's marriage.

Speaking of her children, Reese stated that she has explained what happened between her and her children's father to both son Deacon and daughter Ava. Witherspoon explained that Ava is good at listening to other people and at giving out advice and that, she could not be prouder of her daughter. She stated that Deacon is a true joy to have around and does not hesitate in telling her off when he thinks she has done something embarrassing.

It appears that Ryan Phillippe also believes that the couple’s age was a huge factor in their failed relationship and stated that this was something they did not think of at the time.
