“Game of Thrones” Season 8 is about to start its production. So, little details about the final chapter’s filming are now emerging online, and it includes the television show’s upcoming directors and budget.
According to reports, the series based on George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series will be the most expensive compared to its previous seasons. Also, the greatest directors, who handled its award-winning episodes, are set to return.
‘GoT’ final six episodes’ directors
“Game of Thrones” Season 8 will be the shortest of all the chapters with just six episodes to offer.
Four different directors will handle it.
According to Polygon, the returning Miguel Sapochnik along with David Nutter will be managing the eighth season's five episodes. It is not yet revealed how many each they will be directing. For the record, Nutter already directed six of the series’ chapters.
This included the fifth season’s award-winning installment, “The Dance of Dragons.” Sapochnik, on the other hand, managed the television show’s two biggest episodes – the unforgettable “Battle of the Bastards” and “The Winds of Winter.”
For the coming eight installment’s finale, executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will be directing their show’s final episode.
The absence of female directors
Polygon noted that it is not surprising that David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, David Nutter, and Miguel Sapochnik will be handling “Game of Thrones” Season 8’s last six episodes,
However, it is unexpected that HBO didn’t employ Michelle MacLaren once again. MacLaren is said to be one of the epic fantasy series’ best directors.
She had directed four episodes, including fourth season’s “Oathkeeper” and third installment’s “Second Sons.” Since the television show’s seventh and eighth seasons, female directors are not featured.
The most expensive episode budget so far
“Game of Thrones” Season 8 is expected to be the most epic chapter of the HBO’s hit television show.
With a whopping $15 million budget per episode, fans can look forward to great graphics effects and breathtaking twists and turn of events. This would be the most expensive installment yet. Although the upcoming chapter is just comprised of six episodes, it is said to be “feature-length,” Digital Spy reported.
Thus, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays the role of Jaime Lannister, strongly believes that it is quite impossible for HBO to film multiple endings for the series. "You're not going to waste $100,000 a day to shoot something you're not going to use,” he told Marie Claire.
