Sad news for Ed Sheeran fans. The singer admitted in a recent interview that he might not return for another cameo in “Game of Thrones.”

The “Shape of You” singer got candid in an interview with MTV News about his brief stint as an actor in the HBO series. Ed Sheeran cast doubt that he will have a cameo in “Game of Thrones” Season 8 given the lukewarm reception he received from his appearance in Season 7. He admitted that no one wants him back on the show. “No one wants to see me come back,” he said.

Regardless, the singer admitted that he does not feel bad about it at all.

He said that he is “cool with it.” What matters is that he enjoyed his brief time on the show. Suffice to say that it was already an unforgettable experience for him to cameo in the hit series.

Ed Sheeran on his cameo

Talking about his cameo, the Irish-born singer revealed that he asked to appear for a few seconds only, which did happen. He only got a one-line speaking part. “My whole thing was like, I didn't want to be in it for that long because I'm not an actor. I wanted to be in it for like 30 seconds or whatever, which I kinda was, so happy days,” he added.

The 26-year old appeared in the Season 7 premiere of “Game of Thrones” as one of the Lannister soldiers. He was among the group of young fighters who camped out in a forest.

Arya (Maisie Williams) spotted them while she was on her way to Kings Landing to kill Cersei. She briefly dined and shared a drink with them. The soldiers also shared stories with her about Kings Landing. No one would miss Ed Sheeran since he sang in that scene (see video below). Arya also sat next to him.

Reason for the singer's cameo

Series creators D.B. Weiss and David Benioff asked Ed Sheeran to appear. The singer revealed that it was a “very easy yes” on his part. Of course, who would want to say no to a "Game of Thrones" cameo? However, his cameo was actually a present for Maisie Williams, who is a long-time fan of the singer.

Show showrunners revealed during an interview at the SXSW event that they had wanted to bring Sheeran in for years as a surprise for her. They finally did in “Game of Thrones” Season 7.

Criticisms of his 'Game of Thrones' cameo

Ed Sheeran did not receive praises for his cameo in the Season 7 premiere. On the contrary, people criticized him. This led many to speculate that this is the reason why he deleted his Twitter account. However, the singer later clarified on his Instagram that the backlash had nothing to do with it.
