There are only a few more days before "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" season 5 premieres on FOX and already, fans are anticipating the return of Andy Samberg as Det. Jake Peralta. Also returning are the entire main cast of the Mike Schur and Dan Goor-created comedy, which will also introduce some new guest and recurring stars in its fifth season. When the series concluded its fourth season earlier this year, fans were shocked to find out that Jake and Det. Rosa Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz) were found guilty in a trial for a crime they didn't commit.
The true criminal? Dirty cop Lt. Melanie Hawkins (Gina Gershon), who the squad is working hard to catch. This summer, it wasn't clear whether the series would pick up where it left off or will feature a time jump. But promotional photos released to Entertainment Weekly earlier this month showed that Jake is now sporting a beard and is indeed in jail, and so is Rosa. But what else can fans expect to see in the upcoming season? There will be an additional recurring character in the form of "Prison Break" star Paul Adelstein.
Paul Adelstein as a bad guy
When "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" season 5 premieres next week, fans will get to see "Prison Break" star Paul Adelstein in a recurring role, Entertainment Weekly reported.
The 48-year old actor will play Seamus Murphy, who is described as the "head of a prominent crime family" who may have intel on how to get Jake and Rosa out of jail. He is set to appear in the October 3 episode, titled "The Big House Pt. 2." The title may refer to prison, but it looks like it won't take too long for Jake and Rosa to find their way out. In fact, Melissa Fumero, who plays Amy on the show, posted a photo of herself with Andy Samberg on Instagram, in which Samberg is no longer sporting his beard and is rocking his signature plaid shirt and leather jacket. This is indicative that the squad managed to get him out of jail.
Charles Boyle to the rescue
While Jake and Rosa spend their time behind bars, Jake's best friend Charles Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) is reportedly making huge strides to get Jake out of jail.
Fans would remember that Boyle's hair turned white following Jake and Rosa's verdict last season, so the character will definitely sport a new look when he returns for "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" season 5. Boyle and the rest of the squad are also on Lt. Melanie Hawkins' tail to gather enough evidence to bring her to justice. The fifth season of the FOX comedy premieres on September 26.
