One of the most highly anticipated returns of the Fall TV season is "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" season 5, which is set to come back to resolve the case of Det. Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and Det. Rosa Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz) going to jail after being framed by dirty cop Lt. Melanie Hawkins (Gina Gershon).

The FOX comedy is returning for a fifth season and in the recently held Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour, executive producer Dan Goor confirmed what fans have already speculated on: Jake Peralta is going to jail.

According to Deadline, Goor mentioned that the "idea of doing a courtroom case" truly "excited" him and the rest of the writing team.

He added that after considering three outcomes from the story arc, "guilty just seemed like the most exciting ending. It just gives us stories going forward and this time it will hopefully impact the characters in a meaningful way going forward."

Tim Meadows to guest star as Jake's cellmate

As with other outrageous workplace comedies, "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" season 5 will bring in a set of new guest stars in the upcoming premiere. In fact, Entertainment Weekly reported that Tim Meadows, who previously worked with Andy Samberg in "Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping," will stop by the FOX comedy to play Caleb, who shares a cell with Jake.

The interesting thing about Caleb is that he's a cannibal, so things would definitely not bode well for Jake.

Dan Goor explained to EW, "[Caleb] He cares about Jake, but they are put in a bind because they are both taken out of protective custody and thrown into the general population."

Lou Diamond Phillips guest starring as a criminal

Another actor to play a guest starring role in the upcoming "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" season 5 is Lou Diamond Phillips, who might be known to TV viewers as Henry Standing Bear in "Longmire." The actor will visit "Brooklyn" as an "erratic criminal mastermind" that Jake will have to deal with.

It's yet unclear whether Phillips' character will be in jail with Jake or a criminal that Jake and the rest of the team will have to go after when the fifth season premieres.

99th episode in upcoming season

When "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" season 5 returns next month, fans can also expect a special for the show's 99th (and 100th) episode.

The 100th episode is usually a milestone for most TV shows, but the series creators are also whipping up something special for the show's 99th episode, given the title of the show. The fifth season is set to premiere this September 26 on FOX.
