One reason that “Supergirl” season 3 will not be the average series that people think of is Kevin Smith’s return as the series' director. It can be recalled that he previously directed season 2, episode 9 that featured his daughter Harley Quinn Smith.
Kevin Smith is known for both the Arrowverse and DCTV Universe. During the past few years, he has been well-regarded by various comic book fandoms. It was in 2015 that he first started directing “The Flash.” His work was well-received by the fans and critics.
Why Kevin Smith-directed episode is a must-watch
According to Screen Rant, Smith directed another episode of “The Flash” last year. Following this, he helmed not only one but two episodes of “Supergirl” season 2. While he did well with just about everything, reports on his future return to the series surprisingly died down these past few months. This is despite the announcement of “The Flash” and “Supergirl” season renewals.
Well, that was the case up until today. Kevin Smith officially announced his comeback on Twitter. He will be directing the fifth episode of “Supergirl” season 3. As the image suggests, Eric Carrasco and Cindy Lichtman penned the script. For now, no title has been revealed for the series' episode.

However, it seems like fans do not have to worry about anything as Carrasco and Lichtman have been working with the series as writers for a while now.
Carrasco worked on “Alex,” “Exodus,” “Survivors,” and “Supergirl Lives” while the latter helmed “Luthors” and “Martian Manhunter.” Episode five is no doubt an early one for Kevin Smith, and we are hoping the veteran director can direct additional episodes in season 3.
Kevin Smith on directing shows
The 47-year-old unveiled his interest in directing “The Flash” and “Supergirl.” Aside from expressing desires in directing one of the “Arrow” episodes, he also wanted to helm an episode for “Legends of Tomorrow.” In addition, he aims to work on an episode of FOX’s "Gotham."
Moreover, it is expected that Smith will take the series to another level.
In our previous reports, Jesse L. Martin and Candice Patton revealed what is ahead for their roles this upcoming season. Martin, who plays the role of Barry Allen’s (Grant Gustin) adoptive father will try to keep Team Flash together. On the other hand, he will feel proud of his daughter Iris West (Candice Patton) who will serve as the Team Flash leader. Also, Wally West a.k.a. "Kid Flash" starts to man up as he fills the shoes of The Flash.
