"Linkin Park" frontman Chester Bennington was Laid To Rest in a private ceremony on Saturday, July 29. According to US Weekly, the ceremony took place at the South Coast Botanic Gardens, close to where the singer lived in Palos Verdes, California. There were reportedly around 200 guests, including the singer's family, friends, bandmates and those he has performed with in the past. Instruments were set up on the stage for musical tributes and all those in attendance were given a yellow wristband with the singer's name on it and a VIP pass with a picture of Bennington on it.
Security was said to be tight at the event, with the family wanting a private funeral to lay their loved one to rest.
Memorials taking place worldwide
"Linkin Park" member, Mike Shinoda, took to Instagram two days ago to give fans information about memorials taking place around the globe for the singer. Shinoda started his post saying that one week "feels like forever" before updating fans on the memorial services, the band's new suicide prevention website and making donations in honor of Bennington. Shinoda linked fans to a Google Doc file where you simply click on your location and are taken to a list of memorial dates and times. Global memorials have been arranged by "Linkin Park" fans as a way to say goodbye to the singer.
The band released a statement on their Facebook page last Monday expressing their grief and denial over Bennington's death. They said that the singer had an impact on many lives, including theirs, and that he has left behind a void which will never be filled. The band added that they don't know what path their future is going to take but that their love for music is "inextinguishable".
Bennington's widow trying to find ways to move forward
Bennington's wife Talinda Ann Bentley has said that she doesn't know how to move on and pick up the pieces after her husband's death. In a statement given to US Weekly last Friday, Bentley said that she has lost her "soulmate" and the couple's children have lost their "hero".
The widow added that her focus is now on raising their children with all of the love she has left and she believes her husband is no longer in pain. 41-year-old Bentley expressed her gratitude to fans and supporters, saying that their love can be felt.
Bennington was found in his home on July 20. His death was later ruled by a coroner as suicide by hanging. The singer had openly talked about his battle with mental illness and addiction throughout his career. According to Alternative Nation, there have been three fan suicides in the wake of the singer's death.
