'Legends of tomorrow' season 3 will see the Legends face off against Rip Hunter. However, this does not make him the villain in the story.
What is Rip Hunter up to in Season 3?
Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) will be on the opposing side of the Legends’ missions in the upcoming season. Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim revealed that the former Time Master will be heading a new team called the 'Time Bureau'. This team goes against the Legends in terms of how they deal with time travel.
Is Rip Hunter a villain?
Rip may be going against the Legends but this does not make him the Big Bad in 'Legends of Tomorrow' Season 3.
He is not evil Rip, he is not the same person who turned against his team in Season 2 because of the Legion of Doom. "We’re not making Rip a bad guy or that kind of villain, rather this is Rip as…the Ronny Cox in Beverly Hills Cop to our Eddie Murphy," Guggenheim said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
So why do the Legends have to face off against Rip in the upcoming season if he is not a bad guy? Guggenheim said that what Rip and his new team does is the total opposite of what the Legends do. They have different views on how to deal with time travel. This puts them at odds with each other. Guggenheim said that Rip wants "to do things the proper way, follow the rules, get things done with a certain level of efficiency." This is opposed to the Legends, whose methods he described are "a bit more unorthodox.”
When is Rip Hunter coming back?
Details about Rip's return remain hush-hush.
As far as fans know, he is no longer a member of the Legends when the new season opens. The last time viewers saw him in the Season 2 finale, he left and entrusted the team to Sara Lance. He realized that she was a better fit to be the captain of the Waverider. Where he went after remains a mystery, since the finale focused on the Legends discovering that 2017 has very much changed because of their time meddling.
Regardless, Darvill said in a previous interview that his character's return brings a lot of surprises for fans. He expressed his excitement at what Rip Hunter has in store for viewers when he appears as the leader of the Time Bureau. The difference, however, is that the former Waverider captain will only have a recurring role in the installment and his presence will be limited.
When is the release date of 'Legends of Tomorrow' Season 3?
The upcoming season returns to The CW on Oct. 10, 2017. The installment will explore the consequences that happened after the Legends altered the timeline and destroyed the Spear of Destiny.
