"Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle" dropped its first official trailer today and fans discovered a whole new world that's different from the original "Jumanji." In an attempt to catch up with today's modern, hi-tech era, "Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle" has left behind Alan Parrish's board game and highlights a cursed video game instead. In the modernized version starring Dwayne Johnson and Jack Black, four high school students came across an old video game and just like the board game in the first version, they are sucked into a new world inside the video game.
The four students take on the role of different game characters and they find themselves forced to play through the different levels in order to survive and make it back out in the real world.
Dwayne Johnson has been promoting the movie for a few months now, and finally, the first official trailer has been released. Karen Gillan and Kevin Hart are also part of the all-star cast. According to Polygon, when the first promotional photo of the movie was released, it caused quite a controversy in January, as some netizens called out Karen Gillan's seemingly sexist costume. According to some of the comments in social media, many noticed that Gillan was the only one wearing a sparse and sexy costume that was not so appropriate to wear in the jungle.
Taking on different roles
As mentioned earlier, the cast of "Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle" had to take on the role of different characters to fight for their lives and freedom from the clutches of the evil video game.
The Rock and Karen Gillan defended the controversial costume of the latter's character and assured the fans that once they watch the movie, they will understand why she was wearing the costume in question.
Since "Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle" can be considered as a sequel to the iconic 90's movie starring Robin Williams, it's safe to say that there will really be comparisons between the two films. The similarities between the first installment and the sequel revolve greatly around the mystery of being sucked into a whole new world, whether via board game or video game.
Detention blues
According to Entertainment Weekly, the adventure begins when four high school students find themselves bored to the bones in detention.
When they stumble upon the video game, they immediately chose a multiplayer game and chose their own characters. Little did they know that their choice of character will greatly affect their survival chances inside the game. "Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle" will be released on December 20, 2017.
