"Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" is the long awaited sequel to Joe Johnston's film "Jumanji". The first installment of the series was released in 1995 making it over 20 years since "Jumanji". Robin Williams starred in the first movie as character Alan Parrish and was joined onscreen by Bonnie Hunt, Kirsten Dunst, and Bradley Pierce. The second movie will not feature any of the original cast. Instead, it will follow the adventures of four teenagers who must beat the game. Casting includes Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gilan and Jack Black.
The movie follows four new characters
While "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" does follow the original movie in that four teenagers get sucked into the game, it will not be casting anyone involved in the 1995 movie. The plot will follow teenagers gamer Spencer, football jock Fridge, wallflower Martha and former popular girl Bethany. As the teens get sucked into the game Jumanji they turn into adults and assume new identities. They take on roles which are useful in the dangerous game.
According to MovieWeb, the synopsis states that the teens turned adult will have to find out how Alan Parrish beat the game so that they can return to their ordinary lives. It appears that Parrish has left clues behind that the teens will have to find in order to escape.
In the game, the characters will face such dangers as black mambas, rhinos, jungle puzzles, and traps. However, with their new identities as an explorer, an Amazonian warrior, a genius and a professor the odds are in their favor. The teenagers must learn to work together in order to beat the game.
The highly anticipated movie has been in production for years
"Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" has been in production for a long time. Columbia Pictures has been working on the Jumanji sequel during the same time it was working on the Ghostbusters and Blade Runner sequels. "Welcome to the Jungle" was directed by Jake Kasdan, known for "Bad Teacher" and "New Girl".
The screenplay was written by Chris McKenna, Erik Sommers, Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinker.
The cast and crew of "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" realize that they would have to be careful in creating the sequel to "Jumanji". The original movie is extremely popular and there is a danger of losing fans with the sequel. The trailer for the movie will be released this Thursday on the 29th of June. Casting for the movie also includes such stars as Nick Jonas, Tim Matheson, Missi Pyle and Bobby Cannavale.
"Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" has been given a release date of December 20, 2017. Fans are eagerly awaiting the highly anticipated sequel.
