Netflix has been producing some hit series as of late and their newest creation "GLOW" is set to premiere this June. The show was crafted by Liz Flahive, Carly Mensch and "Orange is the New Black's" very own Jenji Kohan. The series will air for 10 episodes in its first ever season. "GLOW" is based on a TV series, which ran for a total of four seasons back in the 1980's.

What is 'GLOW' all about?

"GLOW" is a comedy wrestling series set in 1980's. Based on the real life "Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling League," the show is a fictional telling of the lives of female wrestlers.

The main character Ruth Wilder, played by Alison Brie, is an out of work actress who finds herself trying to make her way back to the path of fame through this wrestling show. After auditioning for a part on "GLOW" the actress finds herself in a group of similar women, all coined as "Hollywood misfits".

Betty Gilpin plays Ruth's best friend, Debby, who has found out that Ruth slept with her husband. A former soap opera actress Debby is also set to join this group of misfits as she aims to take their issues out in the ring. She storms into the ring and delivers a slap to her former best friend catching the eye of the right man. The ladies find themselves under the command of a washed up director (Marc Mahon) whose goal is to turn them into convincing wrestlers for his show.

Woman as strong, determined fighters

"GLOW" is set to challenge the stereotypes associated with being a woman. The show remains feminine but also shows the other aspect to the women's strengths. One requirement the show requested was there were to be no stunt doubles. All of the action is performed by the actors themselves, showing the initiative and skill the woman pertain.

It is important to keep in mind that this show is a comedic telling of wrestling. The techniques will not be perfect but this is simply because they are not intended to be. The characters on this show don't know a thing about the wrestling world. The addition of real life wrestler, Awesome Kong, or known personally as Kia Stevens will add a hilarious edge to the series as these women come face to face with a beast in the ring.

"GLOW" is set to premiere towards the end of this June on the 23rd. It will be released through the platform Netflix where the trailer is already up for viewing. "GLOW" is a highly anticipated Netflix series and as the hype around the series elevates one can only settle in and go along for the ride.
